could I use a master cylinder from 91 ranger on 66 with disc brakes

I have on order the front disc brake kit from rod and custom. My question is that I now need a master cylinder, I've read to use one from a granada or maverick. I have a 76 comet with manual brakes I removed this master cylinder and proportioning/dist block and thought I would use that if you guys say it will work but I also have a 91 ranger 4cyl w/ front disc rear drum with power brakes and was wondering if I could use that booster and master cylinder on my car or just the master cylinder for use with manual brakes. Any help would be appreciated. My car is a 66 fastback 289. Thanks Jason

You have to measure to see if it will fit between the shock tower and firewall. If it bolts up try it. People are using MC of everything. I read somewhere where a guy used a geo metro MC with power booster to get power breaks in his 60's ford. If the ranger isn't running, pull the MC out and line it up. It can't hurt to check.

you are going to have to modify, and reinforce, the firewall on the mustang to use the ranger booster. not hard but take your time doing it. the comet m/c will work nice though in the mustang if you dont mind keeping the manual brakes.

Here are the issues you'll have to keep in mind: You have 14" of space to work with. If you have a manual trans. car and need the clutch rod hole, the booster will have to be 7" dia. or less.

Those are the issues, and keep in mind, the center hole on SOME boosters won't line up with the one in the Mustang firewall. I wouldn't cut, I'd find a booster from something else if that were the case, but that's just me.

I'll be testing my own combo this month hopefully. I'm using a MustangII booster and SVO MC, with a combined length of ~13.5"

i used a metro m/c booster in my 62 falcon other than drilling 2 awkward holes not too hard to put in. be aware that brakes feel sorta funny with this. it takes almost no effort to lock up the tires and uses about 3/4 of pedal stroke to do it.but after you get used to it it is quite nice. iv'e got versailis rear disk and granada front no proportioning valve. front always locks before front except for on ice(whos gonna drive their nice ride in the winter anyways)

Thanks for the info. I didnt try the ranger booster and m/c because the the brake line threads were metric and I didnt know if I could find an adapter from metric to standard for the lines maybe I'll look for some a try it after Christmas.
I went ahead and put a granada m/c in the car this weekend along with the disc brakes. Thanks Jason

I've got the Rod & Custom setup in both my 66 & 70.
I used a M/C from a 74 Maverick manual disc/drum setup.
I also used an adjustable proportioning valve for the rear
brakes. You can get one from Summit Racing or a local
spped shop. Be sure to use the rod from your old M/C
as the one from the 74 Maverick is too long.
