Could it be as simple as the fan motor?

Here is a short recap. My temp runs 230 street and 180 highway (that is before and after fluidyne, stewart pump and 180 stat - basically no change). My fan ONLY starts at 230 nothing before.

Could my low speed be not working? How do I check that. Also I have put in a new ECT sensor with no change at all. Basically everything I did changed nothing.

By 210*F, the low speed should kick on. You can put a meter on Pin 14 of the CCRM and see if there is 12 volts (at or above 210*F - motor temps).

You can put a switch on there to manually activate it if you desire.

What I would do first though is run the codes. Part of the self diagnostics is to cycle the low and high speed fan setting.

A while back I had a similar problem. I opened the hood while the car was running looked at the fan and it was blowing. Not hard though. Then I put my finger in between the blades and it stopped the fan in it's tracks . The motor was eating itself up inside and the shards of metal were making the fan hang up. When the car was off and I turned the fan, instead of spinning freely it would grind and took a lot of pressure to turn it. It's something you might want to check. I got a motor and then I wired it to come on as soon as the car starts. This helped a lot.

Mine was making noise and I just bought a new one. I figure, the fan is an important part to the car. The car is 13 years old. I would just rather not take chances with some of these parts (if original).

I thought the better rad would keep it cooler..Maybe if you had more mods it would make a diff in the cooling? Dunno.

I got my fan from "sandman" on EBAY. It was lighter and runs just great and great quality for a great price! Good luck.

I cant strongly enough note how poor an idea that is. I am sure your fan was barely moving but still I would not do that. If one has doubts, though I would NEVER suggest sticking anything in a fan, at least stick something like a plastic spoon [something that isnt part of your body] in there instead.

FWIW, one can get a new fan motor from the parts store. I would note that some folks have had issues getting the new motors installed (while others dont).

Not to sound like a parent but I agree. I cut my finger nasty just brushing against my STOCK OLD fan when I replaced it.

I said that I stuck my finger in it, but I did not suggest that . I meant you can test the fan for a problem when the car is off by moving the fan by hand.

Could it be as simple as the fan motor?
