I went through this 20 years ago, could not find a GT or notch at any price. So I bought my 82 six banger hatch as a roller for $50 and have been building it ever since. Then, I found a $500 notch 2.3 for my youngest daughters car, complete with failed A4ld and heater core. And not a straight body panel on the car. She hated it, but drove it for a year when her grandad donated his Grand Cherokee. I still have the 89, now a t5. Planning to keep it, and about six years ago, I found a non running black 93 5.0 notch with mostly good body parts that I could afford, I love my 82 hatch toy, but I have soft spot for notches too. The red notch on the cover of FF & MM this month was at Mustang Week, and is even more impressive in person. For once, I think I got lucky with the trend. I wouldn't sell my running 89 four pot for less than $2500, dents included. I have seen a couple, earlier notches on Facebook lately, and am tempted to be the guy with the cash and trailer, but my wife thinks I lack storage space.....
