Couple of quick dccontrol install questions!

Putting a Taurus 3.8 fan and dccontrol unit in my 88 LX with AC. Got late last night so I knocked off without finishing but wanted to verify a couple of connections before I get back to it tonight:

1. Does the AC wire go to the striped wire on the plug on the compressor? If not, where?

2. On a stock rad, should the temp probe go down by the bottom hose or up by the top? Bottom is output, right?

it should go on the top hose, because that is were the HOT coolant is coming from the engine. lets say fan comes at 190 it will come on as the 190 coolant is coming from the engine, if it was down at the lower hose the fan would never come on and your guage would read mid 200. by the time the coolant goes from the top to the bottom hose it cools off a lot, so if sensor was at the bottom hose reading 190 the coolant at the top of the rad. hose will be reading probably over 220.

The sensor should be installed on the outlet side of the radiator, the AC input can go to the compressor or anything else that's 12V while the AC is on

1. On my 93 GT, I did not run a wire to the air compressor. Running the A/C on my car does not make a significant change in the engines running temp so I did not feel it was necessary to have the fan on every second the A/C is on. I just let the fan and radiator do their jobs. I'm not saying this is good for everybody, just what works for me.

2. Bottom hose is output, and that is where the temp probe needs to be, as close to the outlet as possible.

How hard is the dccontrol install? Pretty straight forward? Good instructions? Where do they recommend mounting the control?

I believe the Fan should come on with the A/C so the condensor doesn't get too hot, causing problems with the A/C. I may be a little wrong, that's not fact on my part.

I have the Taurus 3.8 fan with the DCC FK35. Works great for me.

The way I understand it is you dont have to use the AC input. If your rad and fan are up to the task they will keep you cool anyway. Hooking up the AC input will move more air across the condenser while the AC is on, making your air colder in the car. That is the reason to hook it up, not because you need it.

My A/C is pretty marginal so I'm looking for every edge I can get! The striped wire on the compressor is the one you want with a dccontrol install.

the install is easy, just have to run wires for everything. it is like hooking up a radio or amp. i put mine next to the battery. some folks put it under the bat, on the fan shroud, inside of the fan shroud. just where ever you feel comfortable with it being placed, and out of harms way since it is under the hood.

Alright JerryD, I appreciate the pic but my eyes must be going cuz all I see is 5 terminals and a lot of spaghetti, and I can't even remotely tell what these terminals are attached to. I'm guessing the DCcontrol is black and blending perfectly with your black inner fenders. I have no idea what I'm looking at there. You appear to have more wires in that pic than I have in my entire engine compartment.

I will figure it out though.

Jerry Beach - just had this happen to one of the board members here with his DCC. He didn't hook up the a/c connection thinking like you laid out in your post. The first relatively warm day, on a cold start up, his car ran about a minute and a half at idle in a parking lot with the a/c on -- of course the fan wasn't on due to the cold start up. He popped the high pressure relief valve on the a/c compressor because of discharge pressures being too high. Why? Because no heat was being removed from the condenser coil.

If you have a/c and you're gonna use it - it's more or less required to hook up the a/c wire. If you don't, it won't take long under certain conditions to pop the relief valve on the compressor.

Blue Thunder/Nick - the instructions that come with the unit AND that are at the website are VERY clear that the sensor goes in the vicinity of the output hose of the radiator - the LOWER one.

like i said, it is like wireing a radio under the dash. yes there are 5 posts, but actually only 3(pos, neg, and the output) when you look at it close. they are just extras to put wires on. maybe this pic will help. and yes it does suck having a black car with a black controller.

This is EXACTLY right! And shucks, I had just figured this out right now after thinking my A/C had been broken for two years! Hook the blue wire up if you have A/C!

Just some info...good 12v source to pick from under the hood for the controller is the overflow sensor...perfect ignition on wire. I run the underdrive jumper with keeps the fan at 10% at start up and have the sensor 4 inches over from the outlet side and inline with the bottom of the rad hose. Results have been PERFECT 187 or under regarless of outside temp or driving style with the unit jumpered to 187.

Hot side of a Fox wiper motor is another one for those of us without the coolant sensors.

Where is the wiper wiring located? I'd prolly have to go that route since I don't have an overflow sensor.
