They won't out back with those rims....but a 285-315 would. I see you don't have the room for it with the coil over set up now though. Knew there had to be at least one draw back to them.

When I wear the 275's out on my 17x10's, I plan on replacing them with 315's. It'll be close, but a set of 1/4 wheel spacer will probably do the trick. My car isnt' as low as yours though...but man, I just can't wrap my head around 245's on a 10" wheel.

I have a 245 on a 10.5" wheel. The clearance is fine. Even with the coilovers I have plenty of clearance for more tire. I put the 245 on there because I like how it looks, not for clearance. I have a 1/2" spacer on it now but here is how it looked with no spacers at all.

I know you know this, but I'll split hairs. The coil overs allow more freedom as you can adjust the height. It's where he specifically prefers it that doesn't allow a wider tire.

It wasn't the height so much, but the width that had me baffled. Adjust them up...adjust them down, they're still damn near grazing the spring on the coil over. I've still got more than a fingers width with my wheel/tire set up and have got 275's on the back. It seems like the coil overs (although adjustable for height) have quite a bit more body to them than just the shock alone, limiting his room for a wider tire?

Are you sure those are 10 1/2" wheels? I wasn't aware than anyone made them 10 1/2" wide in the 4-bolt pattern? I was under the impression that only the 5-bolt SN95 wheels got the additional half inch and that us 4-bolt guys only got the 10" wide wheels? I guess you would know better than me though, since they're on your car?

In any case....judging by the pic, it seems like there's next to no room next to the spring. Half a finger width at best? Doesn't leave much room at all for lateral movement....and you'd experience plent of that under hard cornering. Shouldn't be a problem with the 245's though, since you'll never square the sidewalls on them. It's just the look that throws me. But hey....if that's how you like them, who am I to judge?

I see. I'm guessing the spacer is making up for most of that. I too run a 275 on a 9" wheel but I have a bunch of clearance. Still have my quad shocks on actually.

Yea they are 10's lol not sure what I was smoking I just bought them like a month ago and already forgot what size they were. But anyways, if it was a daily driver I would have chosen a different setup, this car maybe sees 100 miles in a month. It's on jack stands 75% of the time.

looks nice I'm thinking I'm not gunna go with coilovers in the rear just for clearance since I'm planning on running 315s I'll have 5/16th spacers just to be sure I have clearance but I'm hoping not to have to use them since im gunna beat the hell out of the inside and rool the crap out of the fenders.

do you have a shot of how much the spring comes out of the pocket into the wheel well?

He is asking if you look at it from the rear straight on, how much closer to the tire sidewall is the spring than the inner fender? Or how much does the spring stick out past the inner fender toward the tire?

I don't see the problem with the tire size or the height. I don't think i can drop mine that low with the headers but i'm probably going rim shopping next tax season and might go the coilover route too. As soon as i finish the interior, the suspension is next on the list.

Really....you think a sidewall stretched to this extent is optimal?

I'm not saying it isn't doable...but it isn't exactly ideal. Don't see a problem with it....as long as you avoid the pot holes and don't get too near any curbs....but a wider tire would be a much better option. If you can't fit a tire wide enough for the wheel because of the type of suspension you're running....then it's either a wheel, or a suspension issue....not a tire problem.

*EDIT*....the picture above is actually of a 225/45/17 on a 17x9" wheels. A 245/45/17 on a 17x10" wheel is stretched even more still.

I take it it IS the look he is going for and I respect that. A lot of people don't like my Welds either.

I have a rant and this probably isn't the place but let me tell you how my hobby has evolved since I was a teen. When I was a teen and before even when I got interested in cars (Birth), a 4 door had no purpose and I could not see why one was ever sold. Kids that couldn't afford a 2dr hopped up some 4dr and thought they were cool, ie the imports ended up being cool even 4dr. If you didn't have a v8 you weren't crap. So if they couldn't afford a v8 they hopped up an I6 etc. and thought they were cool. If your car sounded like a 4cyl with no muffler IT WAS BROKEN JUNK, but those that couldn't afford a v8 hopped up a 4cyl with a fart can and were cool. When people were too lazy to clean their wheels, they got black from brake dust, thus no hubcaps, black wheels, evolved and were cool. (any idea where this is going?) years ago I started seeing cars with wack offset wheels on them because people couldn't measure offset, they became cool. People were too ignorant to understand alignments or handling but wanted lowered cars, so goofed up camber/tilted azz wheels became "cool". I could go on and on but I guess what I'm trying to say is to each his own. No matter the reason, preference for the look or need for clearance, this too will evolve I guess and I'll learn to tolerate it. The car IS nice.

I think its more of the look of it rather than being optimal. Usually this look is mainly seen on tuner cars rather then a muscle/pony car.

Mob in all honesty i'm digging it. MOAR LOWERR!!!!!! (and space the rear wheels a tad to bring em out). How does she ride with coils at all corners? Always toyed with doing them in the front of my car for a tad better handling, and to just clean up the front suspension a bit and add a little element of Custom to it.

Thanks for the comments guys, everyone has their own opinion and thats fine. SRTthis maybe I am dumb but I am still not sure what youa re asking for lol, the shock goes in the stock location so it pretty much goes inside the inner fender. Its like having a shock that has a 2.5" diameter instead of 1.5" or what ever it is.

Haven't really been able to drive it yet, I got spacers on the rear but I need longer studs before I can actually drive it like that, I kind of put them on there to test fit and see how much longer studs I actually need. Still need to space out the front another 1/4" because the wheels hit the springs on corners. But I'll let you guys know how it is once its up and running. I wanted to drop the rear down more but I cant because the shock bottoms out. I actually have to raise it up a tad more, you would need shorter shocks or something to be able to make it go lower, these cars were not designed to go that low I guess.

i know how they mount the issue is my clearance is pretty tight.

if the spring sticks out of the pocket the shock mounts into any its going to rub my back tires.

Nothing is designed to go that low - gotta make it custom

Keep it up though, I'm liking it!

Oh...no i missed that part, i was just looking at the footprint width and didn't see the stretch. It's not ideal but eh it still doesn't look horrible. It's no worse than guys running 295+ on 8 inch Welds with an inch+ of sidewall bulge.

Lol cause its UPR! Oh and hey what's up with the UPR rear coil over springs? Why are they so big? I put the coilovers on in the rear, dropped the spring seat all the way to the bottom and I swear my car sat so high it looked like it was on stock springs. I had to order 7" springs from QA1, you can see spring comparison in first pic.
