I just recently bought a 4" cowl hood and had it painted and put on my '91 notch. I got an absolutely killer deal on this hood, which is some no name hood made from what looks to be the mold of a harwood hood. The only problem is that the opening at the windshield is wide open. To the point where I can see my fan when sitting in the car. I don't have a problem with this but I'm worried about water getting in there. The car doesn't get driven in the rain, but if I ever get caught out somewhere and it starts to pour I'm worried that things are going to go wrong. Any thoughts?

i wouldnt worry too much about water getting in there but if there is no screen over the hole i might worry about birds or squirrels getting in there.

Yeah, I was planning on fabbing up some kind of screen to go in there when I install my exterior mounted tach. The majority of the water I could see running back and away from the opening, but some water will find its way into the engine and with my luck I think something will go wrong.

I don't think that water will really do damage to the motor if you are driving in the rain. These cars were all built from ford to with stand a good deal of moisture and dirt entering the engine compartment. Put a screen on there with some black caulk or stuff a foam insert in there when you are not driving the car.

Now, if you drove your car into a lake... Then we would be worried about water inside the engine.

Thanks for all the input guys! I have a cover on the distributor already. A buddy of mine calls it my car's 'shower cap'. The only thing I guess I was really worried about were any electrical connections around the firewall area where the water will go first.
