Okay so heres my problem.....im confused as shlt right now..

Ive head over and over again the 0's doqls are removable and so forth..

But with that cover off...there is STILL no way to easily ACCESS THE AREA TO FIX THE COWL.

Ive heard someone say "you can reach in to fix....".

Do i have to cut that cover off to get to the driver side hat area...or will some spot weld removal still be needed...

I can put a picture up if it will help....

Hang in there

I used a plasma cutter and cut off the areas at the "shoulders" of the exposed cowl, or the area above the hat and the area that leads to the floor vents on both sides of the car. I removed one piece on each side. After repairing the rust, I simply welded those pieces back on. Mine was rusted at the hat and also in a valley on the driver's side. I welded in patches, covered the new metal with fiberglass filled body filler, painted and then sprayed a rubberized undercoating over the entire cowl area. After replacing the cut pieces on mine, you can't tell that they were even removed. It's really not that difficult. Good luck.

I took the redneck way out.
I first sanded the inside of the cowl area to see how badly Rusted the whole area was. After I saw that it was only a couple of pinholes, I gave it a couple of coats with Eastwood's rust converter. Sanded again and then laid down about 3-4 layers of fiberglass on top of that.

That is what I did also. Just used a 4 1/2 angle grinder with a cut off wheel. Cut the the top off so you can get in there good, welded in a metal piece. Seam sealed the crap out of everything and just welded the part I cut off, back on. Then seam sealed that. Worked great. One thing I did when I welded in the new cowl floor was welded it in at an angle so that the water sheds to the outside better. Once you cut the top off you can notice that the cowl floor is actually FLAT! What a crap design in my opinion. The water just sits there rotting through. Hope this helps. I could email some pics if you would like.

If it is really that bad you could remove the heater box and do it from underneath. BUT cutting the top of is easy even with a thin cut off wheel and wont be seen after the fenders are back on.

In same boats - Pics would be a big help!! Have not seen much on 69 or 70 repairs. Unfortunately mine are lot more than pin holes. PO put patch panels covered rust area and painted them. No water comes in. If you did not look up underneath dash you would not even know. With all the money I have invested in car - can't leave it that way - knowing panel is rusting away. Look forward to seeing PICS posted.

Good man

I had planned on removing the heater box completely and smoothing all of that area out
