So.. i had a mysterious coolant leak which i could never track down until it got really bad... so i jacked the car up and this is what i found. There is a nice crack in the block; what im wondering is this an end all or can this be welded up or repaired? Its not drivable because when you fire the car up it just squirts coolant straight outa the block

Also, that connector thats in the picture (wire loom and all), what is that?

That's not the block that's cracked... it's the seam between the timing cover and the block. Looks like all you need to do is take the water pump and timing cover off and replace the gaskets. Your block is fine. Oh, and that cylinder thing is your oil pressure sending unit.

I'll give ya $501 ha

but no I agree with all the above, just a bad gasket. The reason it sprays out coolant right there is because that is where one of the ports is for circulating coolant.

Yeah dude, just get you a timing cover gasket set and you'll be good to go.

I would change the water pump also while you have it off.

You actually think he's gonna put a new pump and timing chain on there while he's in there? The coolant that's leaking out looks like MUD!!! If he doesn't keep up with the simple stuff like changing the coolant, he's not going to do the difficult stuff. LOL.

If that's the case, you're going to need to make sure that you flush the block thoroughly or your new coolant is going to look just like that the minute you run it. Good luck.
