Crankshaft... yikes

I need to replace my crankshaft... i was just wondering if it was possible to pull it out the bottom... ranther than pulling the motor and ripping the whole thing apart???

Yes it possible to pull it out of the bottm but you have to do the exact same thing as if you were going to pull the engine entirely out of the car exceptt with it out of the car you can work on it eaisly with it in the car you have to lay under it and you will probally screw the main bearings and rod bearing up not to mention probally not get proper torque specs. So do you self the favor and pull the motor. Remember work smarter not harder.

Yes it can be done....well, probably. Lots of people say that removing the pan is nearly impossible without lifting the engine. Pulling the engine is a lot of work, but not that difficult.

It would suck...oil dripping in your face and what not. Not the safest/simplest approach.

Well i have access to a rack so i wouldnt have to lay under it... i really dont wanna have to pull that motor..

I'd hate to have to hold the crank in from under the car hoping the bearings all stay in place, while trying to put main caps on and get them torqued to the proper spec, and aligning rods with crank journals all at the same time. Pulling the engine will probably save you time and aggrivation overall, since you'll probably find the task at hand to be pretty daunting anyway, trying to do it under the car.

5.0 motors are cake to pull. I would not even try to take the crank out the bottom.thats crazy if you do let us know how it went.

when talkin about motors, basically the crank is the first thing in and the last thing out....so it would be nearly impossible to do it, and if you did, it would take a lot more time and effort than it would be worth.

I pull my engine for anything, if it is easier to complete the task that way. IE oil pan gaskets, oil pump, crankshaft, Shoot, I think i'll even pull it out when I change my cam. Only takes less than a couple hours to do.

I forgot that something will have to be done with the transmission if you don't pull the engine to replace the crank. That probably means pulling it from under the car, and then reinstalling it the same way, which sucks.

i am a diesel mechanic and i replace the crank bearings with the crank still in the semi. its alot easier then pulling the motor and it has never failed me yet.

pulling the engine is easy!
take off the electrical stuff. vac lines. unhook accesories. coolant tubes, exhaust and engine mount bolts. and its ready to pull. i would pull the tranny witht eh engine, much easier that way.

i would imagine it can be done in car but you would find that pulling it and doing the work on the stand would make it worlds easier on you and would get done faster.

why are u needing to replace the crank? might as well rebuild the engine. ur going to be replacing the rod and mains, those will be good but sooner or later the rings will go bad then u will HAVE to pull the engine. i would pull it now.. rering it and call it a day.

Yeah, but that's a 2000-2500lb engine. We're not saying that changing bearings in the car is bad because it's been done before. We're saying it's a bad idea in a Fox3 chassis.
