so im refinancing my house for a lower apr and cashing some equity....im
looking at a 302 crate engine from bb&t for 3750( 345hp with gt40x heads? or one from dnd motorsports for 3799 (385hp with tws heads) and going with a aode to t5 conversion kit from ampperformance. My buddies shop is in MS where bb&t are located so shipping is cheap but from dnd its like $450. Help me decide...mind yall its still got to be a daily driver 70miles round trip everyday...:nice:

Honestly I wouldn't go with either of those motors. Shop coast high or D.S.S. If your gonna replace the motor then replace the motor. Don't go back to what your already have. Knock about 50-60HP off those advertised motors.

I agree with the penguin smacker. Both DSS and Coast High Performance have good reputations around here. Plus, I can say that CHP is quite helpful with recommendations if you call them (although I opted to just build out my stock motor for now).

As to the two you mention, they may be fine businesses. But it does sound like the options you are looking at are pretty pricey for what you get.

well i found the same Frpp crate engine through Gene Evans Ford in Georgia for about $3300 shipped...( its a complete long block, with hv oil pump, oil pan, water pump etc...its not like the "long blocks" from dss or chp that are block, heads, timing chain and cam...)

I paid $1800 for my engine SHIPPED from newengine parts.com with rebuilt heads on it and B-cam with flat top pistons. Would have been over $200 less if I didn't buy the heads. The engine runs great and I put TW heads, intake and all bolt on's in it and it rocks. I honestly don't know why anyone needs these other blocks unless they are going over the 500+HP mark. But that's my-o, no flames please, I just figure why spend the extra $1000++? They even said I'd be safe to run a 150 shot of nitrous in it or small boost like 4-6psi. Works for me. I know everyone's needs are different though.

if you are looking for a 302, just rebuild yours. you can do it for much less than the crate engine will cost. if you want more though, chp or dss as joe said. as far as www.bieberfever.com goes, just make sure they sent you the right stuff as soon as the order arrives.

that hp rating as at the crank as well. on the dyno with a 302 with gt40x's, the absolute most you will see is around 300rwhp. i made 297hp to the wheels with my gt40x, gt40 tubular, and tfs stage 1 combo which was actually more than what i expected considering the specs of the parts.

I think it all depends on the tune. Yea, those are great numbers for your engine.:nice: The guy that put my car back together wants $800+ for a tune. I just can't see myself paying that so right now it just has enough tune to map the MAF and fans and that's it.

PENGUIN SMACKER RULES!! :SNSign: :SNSign:

His turned out fine, Roger's seems like it's going to be great, and Ive had excellent experiences with them (CHP) so far getting estimates!!

check out foxlakeracing.com.i've talked to a coupls of guys in my area that have had bad luck with chp,and i read in another forum about guys getting the wrong parts when they ordered stuff from chp.mostly pistons and rods not being a matching set when they arrived, makes me wonder what they are putting in the motors they are selling.then again thats just what i read on hardcore50.com.dont know anything about dss

The motors you get from Ford dealers are not in the same category as those you would get from CHP, DSS and the like.

CHP motor will have had machine work done to ensure all clearances are correct and all parts are working together in the best possible way. Some call this process balanced & blueprinted. You also have the opportunity to pick out stronger parts. This extra precision with stronger parts is what makes a higher rpm operation range possible.

A Ford motor is not gonna be b & b. It is typically made from production line parts. You usually have to settle for smaller heads when you go long block with Ford.

Application

If you are talking about a street motor and plan to keep the rpms down, the Ford motor may very well be just the thing for you.

Price

Like the old saying goes, you get what you pay for.

Good Luck with all your decisions :)
