Crazy Fuel Pressure

I could have sworn I posted this already, but....

my fuel pressure is jumping all over the place, from 30-50 psi at idle.. really quickly

I took the AFPR out and put the stock one back in, changed the fuel pump, and the injectors arent leaking... what would cause the fuel pressure to bounce all over the place?

(car is running rich and sputtering out the tail pipes if that helps)

Are you sure your gauge is accurate? That'd be my first area of concern. Otherwise, there's nothing that I can imagine that would fail and have any cadence in how the pressure oscillates.

And I thought you had a thread like this in 94-95 Talk about 3-5 days ago. I don't know where it went either.

Yeah I checked the gauge on my other cars and it's steady ...

Ok cool im NOT losing my mind, maybe the moderators just deleted it instead of moving it?

im thinking maybe both regulators are bad.. the stock one sat for like 3 or 4 years before it went back in the car

The thing is that with most regs (and your stocker - using it as a baseline for what I know), it doesnt have that much leeway. The difference in its range of pressure is 6-8 PSIG in a healthy stocker. I havent had one completely break on me (to know symptoms) but you ruled that out anyhow.

I'm really not sure what could such fluctuations. If it was me, I might use fuel line crimpers (cheap at the parts store) to clamp the return line progressively just to see if it changes something. When I get an oddball issue that no one knows about, I just start trying things to see if I can make some sort of observations and deduce a conclusion.

You might be right about your other thread. I *thought* it had been in Talk and it definitely was worthy of being in Tech, so someone might have tried to move it and it was accidentally lost (the mods and admin here rock so it most definitely would not have been deleted on purpose for any reason I can think of).
