You have probably already checked this, but did you physically look at the butterfly in the T.B. to make sure it is closing all the way?

You know the TPS sensor can cause such a thing. If it is reading too high/erratically it will throw the airflow numbers off by telling the computer that the butterfly is open more than it really is and send more fuel (in this case you car will also be running slightly rich). Clear RTV is ok, but you may as well go for the gasket, it's only between $10-$15.

I have a similar problem where anytime I rev too high the idle will hang. My soltuion is about as ghetto as it gets - pull the opposite way on the butterfly lever. It likes to get caught on something and the butterfly plate doesn't close all the way. I also have another problem where my idle will surge as well out of nowhere when the car is just sitting. After hooking up a meter to the TPS, I discovered that when it surges, so does the voltage on the sensor

As for the cleaner, a delicate brush and soap and water work fine - brake cleaner is too corrosive for the material the IAC valve is made of.

Hmmm TPS... I just got a ford code scanner I'm going to go pull the codes to see what the hell it says.
