Crazy Thoery - Could my JMS chip have fried m computer?

OK guys, I cam up with this crazy theory today and was wondering if there is any validity to it. MY car was absolutely hauling a** before I put my chip in in May. It would scream up to 6200 and wanted to go more. It just wouldn't idle, so I ordered a JMS chip. After putting my JMS chip, the car ran terrible at first. I finally got it running better. However, its never run as well as it did before the chip, and it seems like I've been chasing electrical demons ever since. The chip was removed and sent back to JMS to be reprogrammed. Even with the chip removed, the car didn't run as well as before the chip went in, even with the FP and timing and everything else set identically to the way it was before the chip went in (see my other threads for more info about this). Right now the car is sitting dead in the garage with no spark, waiting for a new stator to get put in. Anyway, I am just thinking of ever possible thing, and was wondering could the JMS chip have fried something electrical in my car?

maybe u could buy a used computer for cheap and swap that in and see if it makes a difference

It's very possible that it did fry you computer. When I worked at ford there were a few cars that would come it (under warranty) and say something is wrong. The tech would chase the problems and conclude that a chip was in there (removed before they would bring us the car of course) and swear there was none then some finally would admit to it. While other never admitted to it and had there warranty voided (man where they pissed) and there computer were fried.

Thought about that. I'm going to get the stator changed first and go from there. I just wanted to throw the idea out there for now. If the stator doesn't change anything then I may do the computer swap....

I've heard of people that had good results with improved idle and performance after changing their stator. Perhaps this may be part of your problem. I contemplated for months between a JMS chip, Tweecer, PMS, or PIH for my car after my HCI swap. This is one of the reasons I didn't go the chip route. I hope you get all the bugs worked out!

I really dont think the JMS chip could have fried the computer, a friend of mine had his computer out of his car and took it up stairs to read the numbers off to a tuner guy on the internet and when he put it back in the car it was fried. A tech at the dealreship told him it was due to him not grounding himself out before re installin the computer and the static built up in his body by walkin on the carpet fried it.

What about the goop on the ECC where the chip plugs in? If that's not fully removed it will do damage.

Yep, my Dad is a senior tech at Ford and he has seen the same thing. Its just like putting a modem in your computer, you have to ground yourself first or it will fry. The JMS install sheet even says to ground yourself before touching the computer. Hopefully that isn't your problem and its just the stator, I had mine replaced a few months ago.

Where the hell is the stator on our cars and what does it do? Somehow I think I knew this at some point but forgot. Isn't a stator some part of an electric motor/generator?

I still dont get it.... In your other thread you said you had no spark and the rotor did NOT spin?? Does it spin or not when trying to start the car?
