if having an alignment done, ask them to center the steering wheel and then align it.
otherwise, in the old days, i used to pull the wheel and straighten it. i think the stang has some sort of flat face cam on one side of the wheel splines, so it can only go back on in one direction (not sure on that, but the little voice upstairs is telling me that). so that would make that idea not work (other wheels i did this on were circular with uniform splines).

good luck.

I believe you're correct on that one. Anything with an impact absorbing column can't be re-indexed, I think.

there are plenty of impact absorbing columns that are splined, just not mustangs, not my 88 anyway.it sounds like the wheel wasn't straight when it was aligned.you just need another alignment and be sure to tell them the wheel isn't straight is why you want it aligned.

im curious how they are now. as i recall, mine is splined, but it has one side that is flat - not circular. so the wheel can only go on one way due to the flat spot. make sense and is that what others have?

I have an 86 3 spoke wheel in my 82. There are two little studs off the steering hub that go into two matching holes on a steel washer in the wheel itself. So i'm pretty certain 82-86 use that method of locking the wheel in place and adjustment from the wheel would be impossible. As far as 79-82 i would assume it to be the same, 86+ i have no personal experience with.

It's more then likely just an alignment issue. More then likely the toe setting is just out. If you get lowering springs, get caster camber plates too.

I have an 83, and you can actually install the steering wheel two ways... The right way, or 180 degrees, or upside down. Those are the only ways to put it on. I believe they are all the same in the Fox years. Oldin' car you could install the steering wheel just a little off, but that kind of steering wheel and colum haven't been used in years.
