Cross member question

When changing the clutch on an 87 GT, can you remove the cross member without dropping the exhaust, and if so, what is the trick?

when i took mine out, the way the cross member/exhaust/tranny were all hucked up i couldnt help but take my h-pipe off.

i was able to pull mine by turning the crossmember inline with the driveshaft.it might not work on yours but it a thought
