Hey All! I just bought a 1995 mustang Gt 5-speed about a month ago. After a rebuilt t-5, new trans/motor mounts, Harmonic balancer I am now able to drive it! The car is fun as hell!!! I only have one problem now. The car makes a popping/slight banging noise from around the rear crossmember area that I can feel through the shifter at initial takeoff in first gear or reverse. Its got me kinda worried

There's a crossmember brace that helps prevent crossmember flex. Sometimes the bolts holding it in place work loose. It's a single bar at the back of the crossmember next to the back of the oil pan. Tighten the f%^@$! out of 'em and see if the noise goes away.

That's not the crossmember. The crossmember is a support for the transmission.

Well I went out and took everything apart. It looks like the passenger side bolt took some metal out of the mount on the chassis and with the transmission mount loosened and the two bolts loosened has a lot more play than the drivers side mount... I also noticed that the passenger side of the h-pipe is about half a inch(maybe less) away from the cross member. Could that be the culprit?

i dont think the exhaust would travel that much, especially with your new motor/tranny mounts. there is one way to find out though. get all the mounts fixed up and tightened, and then get some paint or white-out or something like that and dab it on the area of the bar you think it might be touching. then rev the engine to see if it touches. good luck and welcome to stangnet!
