Yes.That's an idea. But, wouldn't that lock the switches in and prevent changing them if needed?
I avoid permanent when possible.
Sorry old thread, I’m just wondering if anyone can help me, I have an 89 F-150 I’m guessing it’s very similar and I’ve tried what you have suggested but it’s still not working. I’m really struggling here and desperately need some help, I am attempting to relocate my cruise control I have tried numerous times and I swear I have everything wired correctly but it’s not working, when I hit the cruise off button the horn sounds and the cruise will not work, I’ve done extensive searching on forums but I cannot find the answer, I have read people having the problem and what they did to fix it so I’ve tried those fixes but still with the same results. I tapped the yellow wire at the connector below the steering column and ran it to the two yellow wires on the cruise control switches. I tapped the purple wire at the connector and ran it to the purple wire on the cruise control switch as well as one end of the horn pad. I tapped the black wire at the connector and ran it to both black wires on the cruise control switches and another wire to the other horn pad. I swear this is how it was connected at the start and how I have read to connect it but yet no results. Please please please help me!
Take a look through this thread. Might have more information by way of the wiring diagrams and the necessary resistances needed to activate.

Done a little research into this and figured what I learned should be put into a thread and added to the tech sticky. As you can imagine, nobody really gives much thought to cruise control on these cars, so many searched threads had dead ends. So many this will help someone out down the road...www.stangnet.com
It sounds like you really need a F150 evtm which is what those diagrams are taken from
Thanks for the diagram, so I believe from the diagram LB/BK that goes to the speed controller from the switches would be my yellow wires, so I have both yellows tied together and running to the yellow on the connector at the bottom of the steering wheel so that should be good I believe. Does the yellow at the top of the column need to be cut or can it stay connected to the turn signal switch pins. The Dark blue (I called it purple as I am slightly color blind with those colors) I have tapped into the dark blue on the connector at the bottom of the column and runs to the dark blue on the cruise switch, from their it runs to one side of the horn pad. Again I believe this is correct. The BK wire I have connected to both blacks on the cruise control switches and tapped into the black at the bottom of the steering column connector and then a black runs to the other side of the horn pad, again I thought this was right. Is it a problem now that I don’t have all the blacks connected to that spring clip that used to clip into the steering wheel hub?
