Crush nuts for PS swap

Hey guys,

I really need some help figuring this out. I'm trying to install the power steering ram drop down bracket in my 1968 mustang. I'm converting from manual to power steering. The scott drake crush nuts that insert into the frame rail are too big and don't even begin to slide into the hex bracket inside the rail. Is there something I'm missing here? I thought they should just slide in.

Any help is appreciated, and some install instructions would be even better.

If you are going with the original power steering setup, my only advice is don't do it. The original system was crap on its best day.

I converted from the original power steering to a Borgeson power steering box and am very happy with the way it works.

Too big by how much?

Also, I got a stock system rebuilt almost entirely by Chocostang, and I'm quite happy with the improvement in the steering. I understand that many people have been pleased with the Borgeson box, but a properly rebuilt system was a better improvement than I would have imagined.

Couldn't have been THAT bad....GM used it on the Covette from '63 to '82.

+1 so happy with results onmy 70 - doing the same on my 66. Can't help you with the crush nut - my car is being painted at this point and I can't check it out. Did get crush nuts from chocko but he highly recommended welding in bracket in addition to the nuts. May want o give hima call. very knowledgeable..

Update, I got them in. There aren't too many problems that can't be fixed with a 5lb sledge hammer, they slid in after a few good whacks! I will be welding the bracket on in addition to the nuts, this was always the plan. Thanks everyone for your recommendations on what system works best, but I'm not going go through the trouble of collecting and rebuilding all the original parts just to drop it and go another direction.

It seems like you may need and impact wrench to properly crush the nuts (no pun intended). I tried using a ratchet and they were snug at best. I wound up getting the bracket welded.
