Curious how much power it takes to get a 67/68's front wheels off the ground?

Yep if your car is lifting off the ground then the power is going into lifting it up instead of propelling it forward. It does look very cool, you could always get "900 horses of detroit muscle" like Vin Diesel and do a wheelstand and a burnout at the same time. :rlaugh:

isnt part of hooking up and setting up suspension for drag is to have the weight transfer of the car shift from the front to the rear allowing a greater percentage of weight to be on the rear tires, which lifts the front end while increasing traction?

Yes, but even transfering weight is lost energy. The fun part is finding how much you need, and getting ONLY that amount.
 
Well you have to transfer some, or else it won't work. With about 400 flywheel HP, a 3.0 something first gear Jerico and 5.67 gears on 9x30 slick in a ladderbar/coilover 3000# '69 fastback it'll pull about 9" when tuned right. It could pull them higher, but it wasn't faster. It could not pull them at all, but it was slower. The chassis was set up by a chassis man that builds low 7 second cars that run on 10.5w's, so I think it was done right.
