I thought maybe some of you could help me out.

I've been thinking about buying a 5-speed Mustang GT for a long time now. I can get it on X-plan, which I understand has a certain formula that gets you down around invoice price. That would save me maybe $2,000 or so. I know there is some cash back now, and in response to an earlier thread I posted most people said I could expect to pay X-plan and still get the cash back. There seemed to be some uncertainty about whether you could get the cash and the low-interest financing, I'll have to find out about that.

I had been thinking maybe $3,000 off MSRP between X-plan and the $1,000 cash back, but I was passing a Ford dealer in a nearby town this evening and swung through to see what they had in stock. The dealer had two silver GT's, both automatics, with a tag hanging inside each showing a "clearance" price of just under $5,000 off sticker on each! I know there is a some extra cash back on an automatic, but I was still surprised. One of the cars stickered for $30,800 and the tag inside said $25,900.

I don't mind paying a fair price, but like anyone I don't want to pay more than I have to. Should I be looking for a better deal than $3,000 off sticker? Or was this dealer unusual in discounting so much? I'm trying to get an idea of what a fair price would be for a 5-speed that stickers at just under $31k.

Thanks,

To let you know I just bought a 07 gt premium, pretty loaded for 27,756 this was also on the x-plan you get 1000.00 dollars rebate and that does not include the finance, it's an either or situation.

$5,000 off is a bargain. If you are trading something in, watch what they offer you. My dealer offered me a fair price on a new GT with X plan and rebates but very low trade in.
You will not get the rebate and lower interest rate.
I wonder if near the end of the year, if you can wait that long, if 0 percent will be available again as it was last year.

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. Sounds like the nearly $5k off is a darned good deal. I'd be looking hard at one of those cars if they were 5-speeds.

Still, I guess I can mention to my dealer that I saw the discount at another dealer and see what he has to say. It's nice to know I should be able to use X-plan and get the $1,000 back.

I could wait to see if they offer 0% in a few months, but at that point I'm sure I would just opt for an '08 since they should be on the lots in August. I'm just not sure I can hold out that long......

Sounds like a great deal to me........

.....but would you be willing to have an automatic if you were originally looking to get a 5 speed?

Grant you, the automatic does kick a55 and it doesn't miss 3rd!
