Custom cam questions

How do I get a custom cam?

Do I just call a place up, tell them I have a 347, AFR 185s, and want the power from 1500-6500 RPM, and a loppy idle?

Or do I have to take the engine to the place and have them make one then?

What information do I need to tell the person my setup? Would I have to tell them, piston to valve clearance, head valve clearance, ect?

I'm not ready for a custom cam yet, but I'm shying away from one b/c my combo is constantly going to change.

i;d say only go w/ the custom grind when you are fully satisfied w/ your combo. i was originally leaning towards an Ed Curtis cam...but then i saw how great the TFS stage 1 is. People are getting 300+rwhp from it, which is my goal. So i went that route for now. So when i finally decide to rebuild the engine w/ a stroker kit and s/c it, then i will have my custom cam and make 450+ rwhp. Thats sorda my intentions as of now

Power numbers isn't all you should go for from a cam. Better streetability and power under the curve is also important which swayed me towards a custom.

The engine I'm close to buying is a 347 with a trickflow stage 2 cam. I figured since the engine is out, now would be the time to change it.
