custom exhaust mounting

hey guys,
i just installed a patriot side exhaust on my car (don't worry, not my mustang) and it is sitting far too low. the only way i can see to raise it up is to have the mounts bolted directly to the frame, eliminating the rubber washers....... is there any reason why exhausts are always mounted with rubber? would it be fine to have the exhaust fixed in place?

The exhaust is mounted with rubber because it dampens the vibrations and helps lower the noise level inside the car. I wouldn't mount it directly to the car, post up some pics so we can see what your needs are and maybe give you some ideas.

also when the exhaust heats up it will grow longer (expansion). Solid mounting can cause problems...cracking, leaks...

well, i guess i can clarify.... the actual glasspack tube is attached by brackets that screw into the bottom of the rocker panel. the two rubber washers that come with the kit are about 1/2 inch thick each...... would using a thin rubber washer in their place, say like a 3/16 or something provide enough dampening? and it would only be the section of the exhaust that is on the side of the car that would be mounted this way, the rest would be stock ('66 galaxie)

My buddy's got a set of sidepipes on his el camino, I helped him put 'em on a few years back, and i don't recall using rubber washers. The brackets bolt right to the frame. I know it's way quieter inside then my car, (I do have dumps off my glasspacks though ) We just used flex pipe to hook his up, and it's been 3 years, and no leaks. still look great too, just keep them things waxed up!
