Nope but you will have to be sure to setup the throttlebody to factory specs to achieve the proper airflow. Usually 1.5 turns up from bottom on the ISC bleed and 1 turn past 0.010" clearance on the TB arm screw will get you here.

I tuned a 342 last nite with 75MM throttlebody, X cam, Holley intake and with the aid of being able to see ISC learning etc I was able to properly set his TB without even having to touch the neutral idle airflow function.

Also if your fueling is incorrect at idle you will chase your tail.

no custom tune is needed with an air intake, throttle body and intake manifold swap? will the swap give me any real performance upgrade? i also plan to swap out the rear end gears for some 4.10 or 3.73 since my vert is an automatic.

You will see an increased topend with those changes.

For the gears you will likely want a custom tune to lower the shifting RPMs of the transmission so that you do not nick the rev limiter. The stock transmission typically does not shift fast enough with the increased RPM rise that gears give you.

It'll be close, if you've got the U4P0 processor you will be more apt to get away with it than if you've got the W4H0. You can pop off the passenger side kick panel and read the teartag on the PCM to see what you've got.

Depending on the power of your motor, age of the transmission etc it is a bit different for everyone.

anybody else has experience with a rear end gear swap? will a custom tune be necessary if i have a 3.73 ratio gears installed in my auto tranny stang? how about 3.55 ratio gears? info greatly appreciated. thanks in advance!

You don't need a tune for a gear swap. On a stock 5.0 you never shift anywhere near the rev limiter even with a gear.

You'll be very hard-pressed to find any information that is better than that from Wes, a professional tuner.

Every car is different, which is why tunes are custom. No one can tell you for sure how your car will react, as no two react the same. There is a LOT that can be done in the tune to clean up the AODE performance, and accomodating the shift thresholds is a part of that.

i love my 373s. youll feel a big difference but since your auto, 410s will be amazing. its like you bolted on loads of power. looks into a torque converter. its another adder that youll find that makes a difference.

as for the intake, you wont need a tune. the computer will learn it.

several people have answered your question more the once. You dont need a tune w/ a gear swap no matter what gears you put in or what kind of transmission you have.

Once again, you CAN have issues with the limiter on an AODE/4.10 car. You can even have isses with a lightly modded 3.73/AODE car. Not to mention that if you're near the limiter, you've probably fallen off the powerband anyhow.

If all you guys were not having issues and the higher shift points were not bothersome, something was probably wrong with your power output.
