know it can be based on personal preference .... but can anyone chime in on benefits on either of the choices. Not looking to sell the car but is there any value to the difference? 1990 GT. Texas Thx

You've already said it..."personal preference". Custom painters may be better these days, but my old running buddies who went for custom paint often had issues with the painter taking artistic license...or, just not seeing their vision (this before the days of home computers, photo shop, CAD and other drawing programs). To that end, if you are after something in particular, draw it out over a photo/line drawing of your particular car. My dad was in the car business....cars with "custom" paint seldom brought as good a price as the ones with the factory paint...unless the "custom" paint amounted to a super sharp, detailed and glossy version of the factory paint. Consider how your car is to be used...daily driver or garaged weekend cruise queen. If your car has a good factory job on it, that is the way to go IMO (especially if a daily driver)...durable, blends in, not a cop magnet and saves enough money for a blower and more.

In the long haul, a factory paint job will bring more money, especially if you have a really low mileage fox.

Custom paint can mean a lot of things too. It can be nutty wild like a lamborghini I saw with superheroes painted all over it (owner officially had too much money), to as simple as painting the hood decals on from the older GT's.

A person can become a real mustang Melvin with the details of what the factory originally put on our cars.

If you don't have a pristine fox, you really don't have any idea how challenging it is to return it to totally new stock status.

There are only a few foxes that are worth the effort to take it to the Melvin stage.

Yours, mine, and most of the guys here have cars that aren't worth the price.

If you want to make your car look like new with an original appearing paint job, that's reallly sweet. It'll look beautiful and be admired.

A custom paint job (which I'm somewhat doing with mine) can be very tasteful as well.

I know my mustang will be worth more than what I payed for it when I'm done,LOL.

We own the perfect car to do exactly what you want with it.

BTW, a custom or factory look paint job done properly ain't cheap.

Well here goes.... the guy I bought it off did a horrible learning experience paint job. Black primer now covers the original- twighlight blue. (Code MK YJ) I think it still has the original front fenders .... which were not properly aligned when he put them back on. I have gotten the replacement front bumper cover and working on getting the rear bumper cover as well.

Yep, based on the pics, I'd say you're not going to substantially alter the vehicle's value by the color of the paint, but rather the quality of the job. I gather it's less work/effort to keep the car the same color.

If you were trying to do a quick flip then you would straighten it out the best you could, shoot it with a cheap Maaco job and dump it.

If you plan to keep it, a standard paint job will be less expensive than any custom work. That car needs a lot of love to get right, unfortunately.
