I was reading an article about exhaust at work [Yeah, I work at a auto parts store.] and I learned about cutouts/cutoffs. I was wondering if anyone has ever tried/put these on their stang? Here's a URL incase anyone is wondering what they are:

http://store.summitracing.com/defau...eywordSearch&DDS=1&N=115&target=egnsearch.asp

Right now I like the sound of my exhaust, but I use to run just headers for about 3 weeks when I just got my transmission redone. It was loud, but fun.. This would allow me to have the best of both worlds for about 60 bucks...

Any suggestions/ideas/comments/throw the around....

Oops, wrong link.. Ummm... They're just like a Y for each header and you take off a "gate" then you have open headers. Otherwise it flows thru the normal exhaust.

cut outs are something hot rodders have been using for years. yes they do improve exhaust flow and thus improve power. you have to be careful where you mount them in the exhaust system because you do need a certain amount of back pressure. btw if you are running cats thats where your factory exhaust is losing you the most power. i see you are not though.

A decently tuned performance-exhaust should yield more power than utilizing a cut-out (wave tuning is essentially lost when using a cut out).

I have run cutouts but not on a stang. I did away with it.

Good luck with the decision (it really is just a personal choice).

Well, when I ran just open headers I noticed better off-the-line performance than my current exhaust. I don't see back pressure ever being a good thing. How can it be? All it is doing is creating pressure and choking the engine...Next time you're trying to eat let me choke you and tell me if it's easier for you to breath.
