Cuttin off exhaust on 04 asap

would it be ok to cut off exhaust from back of muffler?like runing dumps or what have you. friends say i should. Would it be bad for car and really hurt performance? Cause i do not want to cut it off, and then it be horrible and have to find way to weld it back on . Please any info is greatly appreciated, cause i will be doing it sometime tonight.

Chopping off the tails isnt gonna do much. You're gonna be unhappy with the empty holes left where the tips go too.

Dont chop the mufflers off alltogether either, that will sound like total ass.

If you're lookin for a cheap exhaust thrill and dont mind not being able to talk in the car, go buy some cherry bomb mufflers ($5/pc) and have those welded on with dumps. KEEP YOUR TAILPIPES though. You're gonna want em back.

If you cut it off after the mufflers, I don't see what the point would be. You'd lose your tips, and probably smell exhaust from inside the vehicle.

If you mean cut if off BEFORE the mufflers, you'd gain some sound, but lose some low end torque, and again, you'd smell exhaust inside the vehicle.

Your friends need to learn about the proper way to do things. Cutting up your exhaust like that is something people do to jacked up pick up trucks.. not Mustangs.

Hey! I reserve the claim for AL of the chopping up of exhaust systems! KY actually has emissions testing in some places

Theres not many states when you can go pay a few bucks to have perfectly good cats cut off the car with straight pipes put in place.

Yeah I hear ya. I chopped the catback off my 4 cyl Beretta years back.. drove it around for a few weeks before I rigged up dual exhaust. I used to get flames from the pipe when getting off the highway if I feathered the throttle. Ughh.. memories.

I got a 95 4.6 thunderbird with no mufflers, just replaced with chrome 20inch 2.75 straights/pipes.

Honestly, it sounds pretty damn good though it does get droney above 3K rpms. If you chop off the mufflers on a mustang, it sounds more raw, and more like a drag car. Someone on this forum did it and honestly it didn't sound too bad.

BUT, you're much better starting at the block and working back..as in headers, high flow cats etc. My buddy's 91GT sounds CRAZY with mac headers and the exhaust dumped under the car...with no mufflers.

I'm happy to say I no linger have dumps! It was cool for a while and actally I would have had to do it anyway when I dropped the fuel tank. It makes it loud as hell inside the car, and the smell sucks too. If you want it louder, buy a new off road midpipe. The factroy exhaust is of good quality and you shouldn't trash it unless you have a suitable replacement.

When i installed my catback we hit a snag on the install so i was running nothing after the stock h-pipe. It was WAYYYY too loud and annoying. Sounded sweet at first but after 2 days of it it got old. My ears rang after driving for more than 5 minutes in it.

What are you thinking?
The smell, the view from the rear-end, the lack of any sort of performance gain and the fact that it will just cheapen a really cool car... Why?

People will think what's left of your exhaust is secured by coat hangers...

Again, why?

domestic rice, i say.

Leave your exhaust alone.

When i was installing my flowmaster, i cut my stock exhaust off right after the tailpipes. Then i needed to move the car so i had to drive it with the stock exhaust minus tailpipes. Sounded terrible and it vibrated the car so badly. I was actually embarrassed of it during the 5-minute drive i took.

Cutting off the tails is not like dumps at all. That little turndown tailpipe after the muffler does help with vibration and noise.

Guess he already did it HAHAHAHA! But if you havnt...il keep this thread as 100% AGAINST it! DerekstangGT done it right (dumps with some weldin mufflers...forgot which ones) and he said its LOUD inside the car...said that the dates didnt like it lol.

Unbolt your catback and start the car to see if you like the sound. This only takes like 10 minutes if the bolts aren't too rusted, and contrary to what people who haven't experimented would guess, the car sounds good and will still pass emissions. Don't hack off the stock pipes and leave the mufflers if you want your car to remain looking like a GT. Either get cutouts put in before the stock mufflers or buy a catback. I have cutouts before the stock mufflers and the car sounds tuff when they are open. Just my 2 cents.

Dude lives near me...since I don't actually live in Cincy but across the river in KY in a neighboring town....Wait a minute, I think I hear that car from my house, oh wait, never mind, it was just a cement truck.
