Well, could be a bad spark plug, when was the last tune up on the car? Could be a bad ignition wire, or a bad coil if your tunning coil on plug. It can get alot more complicated than that but im sure these basics will do it for you.

A misfire can be caused by running too lean also. I had same problem last spring in two cylinders. Is the SES light flashing?

the CEL blinks every 5 minutes but no other lights... im pretty sure im running the stock motocrafts that come with the car i think ima try and change the plugs today to see if one of those are burned out.

BTW what is the SES?

SES= Service Engine Soon light, aka the check engine light.

If the light is blinking, you should stop driving the car until the problem is fixed. Blinking SES is a bad thing. A steady SES is not as serious.

a blinking SES means that there is damage being done to the cats.

EDIT: a misfire will cause it to blink, because dumping raw fuel into the cats is bad. remember, OBD2 was designed as an emissions system, the SES usually goes off when something is wrong with emissions, ie your engine. probably changing out the plugs will help with the code, make sure they are gapped smaller .035" should be suficcient i would think. there also might be a bad coil, or a bad connection.

bdcardinal, thanks for adding info to this. I spoke with my Ford guru and he said almosty the same, exact thing. I had THAT same problem with my car while running the C&L Maf back in April. Tech told me to "stop the car" as he realized while on the phone I was getting fuel into the cats for some reason, but did not know why at that particular time. I drove slowly to the shop a few miles away and had the problem corrected.
