I finally got both my cylinder heads off and noticed that on the passenger side head, the valves, most notably the exhaust valve, is incredibly clean in comparison to all the others. In fact, it almost makes me think that I've been running on 5 cylinders for a long time.

I'm going to take it to work on monday and ask some of the mechanics if they have a better idea of what needs to be replaced than I do. Maybe, if I'm lucky, it was just that the injector was so scuzzed up that it wasn't getting any fuel into the mix for that cylinder. If I'm not, it could be a worn cam or some other atrocity that will cost me more money than I had anticipated.

Pictures are on my cardomain page(pg 7). If anyone has any idea of what it most likely is, then I'd appreciate it. I was hoping to only replace the injectors and just clean the heads unless they were really bad.

What was your reason for pulling the motor down? It looks like the head gasket on that cylinder was starting to leak.

I think if you were running on only 5 cylinders... you would notice. It may be that there might not have been enough fuel getting in there, but that would mean that you'd be running lean and it wouldn't really be a clean looking exhaust valve, it should have a white powdery look to it, if you were running lean. I'll think about it, but your best bet would be to take it into your work like you said. ...I don't know if this is possible but, it could've been stuck open and any exhaust, heat, fuel, etc. was just going right on through. Just a thought, but have your mechs check it out.

Hopefully it was just running very lean. The injectors on that side were extremely gunked up, and I'm going to replace all of them. If it was stuck open or the intake valve wasn't opening, then I might bee looking at new lifters/replacing the cam. And that's more than I wanted to do. I want my 'stang back dammit.

Hopefully it's just running lean. If you have to replace the lifters, valves, valve springs, gaskets and cam. It wouldn't be to much if you get them here www.rpm-mustangs.com They also have modded heads and intakes, injectors and pumps. That might help, but check to see if it was just running lean first.
