Well, I am in the process of rebuilding the motor in my 85 SVO, and I found out that my head is cracked. And my question is there a difference in the the 84-85 heads and the 85.5-86 SVO cylinder heads. I want to get the best one that I can get. Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Donald

Id have to concentrate on one project in order to get as essy head....so thats not happening.

All turbo heads are the same with some slight differences in cams. While its out would be a good time to just throw in a ranger cam.

Another very cheap option if you're looking for a performance build up is to get an N/A head. It has a much smaller combustion chamber that is heart shaped. This needs to be opened up to more of a D which will drop the compression back to useable numbers. Then install 1.89/1.59 stainless valves and a good port job and you'll be capable of over 400rwhp.

Honestly, even though it's cracked, I'd run it UNLESS it's cracked clear into the water or oil passages.

99% of the turbo heads being run today are cracked but work just fine. Every turbo head I own (all 6 of them) are cracked and I'm not the least bit worried about it.

If you don't like that idea, all the SVO heads were the same. Other 2.3 heads will work as mentioned as long as you put in some hardened exhaust seats.

Powerheads sucks...they do a very "mild" port job and charge you as much or more as a "professional" port job.

The crack is on the rear passenger side of the head.

i would take the head and get it magna- fluxed or whatever its called if ur really worried. But that seems like a crazy spot to get a crack, especially since its on top. If there was no oil in the water, or water in your oil, then I'd bet you'll be alright.

Well, I am about to buy a whole 87 t-bird 2.3L Turbo motor from a guy around here for dirt cheap, so I am going to use the head off of it. And I am going to get it ported and polished, and machined for bigger valves, I wanted to get some extra engine parts and block, and now I am getting them for a good price.

i went to the powerhead shop in fullerton to get my cyl head, he was in the middle of changing out his 32lb injectors on a tbird so it i'll smog. they do good work and the price is reasonable, you'll really notice the car breaths better and spools faster
