D. Hearne and others, junkyard help please!

The dizzy gear is special, and ive only been able to find it from ford racing...the problem is the dizzy shaft diameter....its smaller on a points dizzy than a 70's truck or 80's stang dizzy...so you gotta get the special one...its $35...the shaft on the points dizzy is like .45 and the shaft on the dizzy's that come with steel gears are like .57.....so you cant use a newer one

I thought of another question. I want to install an inertial shut off switch with my electric fuel pump just in case I'm ever in an accident.

I think a full-size Ford like a Crown Vic would be a good donor, as they are very common in yards around here.

Any one know where the shut off switch is located in common Fords? And what does it look like?

Thanks!!
The switch on my Ranger is located on the passenger side floorboard under the carpet. Don't know about the full size cars. I also wired mine thru it. Look in a newer Stang, you really need it mounted in a similar location. We got nto a discussion about this somewhere, and came to the conclusion that the switch is mounted in different locations from vehicle to vehicle possibly due to the vehicle's construction ( unibody, body on frame, etc) :nice:

Thanks D. Hearne - I realized that I should do a search this morning and I found a thread explaining that most cars have the switch in the trunk on the driver's side. I got one out of a Cougar today. I wasn't sure what it looked like. Fortunately it had "inertia switch" written on it. :D It is a small black box with two screws and a red reset button on the top (at least this particular one looked like that).

65fastback2+2 - thanks for the information about the dizzy. That is VERY helpful. I've been trying to figure out what to do on this. I haven't been able to find a points distributor or a Duraspark setup yet in a junkyard. I have a pertronix, I think I might try to fit it onto a rebuilt '85 Mustang distributor from the local parts store. I have no idea if that will work, but what the heck, I might as well at least have a look at it. Probably the best solution would be buying an old points dist and shelling out the $35 for the steel gear - then the Pertronix would be guaranteed to work. For now I'm going to think and look a little more.

Ok, I pulled the 6 cylinder and C4 out of the car. Now I found out that the Fox Mustang 302 motor mounts are not compatible with the early style of frame brackets. I found small block V8 motor mounts at the local auto parts store for $13 each. They had them on the shelf.

Also, the frame brackets for a 1970 Mustang 250 I6 are different from a small V8 bracket.
