Ok so I drove all the way from Mass into NY state last night after I got done with my shift at work at almost 11 o clock at night last night because it was my dads birthday and I hardly see him anyways. Its only like a half an hour drive but still I was TIRED as hell. So the next morning I hear him yelling for me to wake up and come downstairs. I asked him what he wanted and he says "I backed into your car!" IMMEDIATLY IM UP AND OUT OF THE BED! But hang on he has said this to me before just to get me going so I say to him "yeah ok". But I saw a look of dispair on his face and he said "im not lying". First thought "What. The. *****."

Come out and sure enough he backed into my front bumper with his truck and theres a huge black scrape on it and about 3 chips of paint are gone. Bumber still is in one piece with no cracks. So we rode down to the body shop and the guy took all the black marks off with one swipe of this rag dipped in a cleaner that he would not tell me what it was (probably damn gasoline...). He said it would be about 200-250 dollars to paint that one spot because they have to remove the bumper to avoid getting paint on the radiator and then reseal the entire bumper so the spot doesnt start to peel. BUT he said it wasnt that bad and it would be more practical to just use some of the touch up paint that the Ford dealer matched my paint number to for the chips. Then polish the remaining white scratches and then wax it and it might look 90% good as new.

So Im gonna do all this tomorrow and I wanted to know if there were any suggestions as to what products I should use that are most effective for getting some good scratches out. Im gonna try to avoid using rubbing compound at any cost but may use some mild polishing compound but dont know which ones work best. My dad said that he is really sorry and will pay for ANYTHING that I want to do. So if it doesnt look good after I do all this I might just have him pay to get it painted. Lol. I joked around with him and told him that he should buy me a cobra bumper and pay to paint it and he said ok. But Id feel bad if I made him pay that much even though it was his fault because hes my dad after all. I dont even want to make him pay to paint the stock bumper but it makes me so upset that I havent even owned the car for a year and it already looks like ****. ALSO I WILL TRY TO POST PICS TOMORROW AFTERNOON.

I know how you feel man. My wife and I had to move in with my parents for a couple of months (we had to move out of our old house, it was flooding) while we were buying our house and my dad wasn't used to us parking there. I had my 04 GT for about 6 months, not a scratch on it, and he backs into the damn thing. I still haven't gotten around to getting it fixed.

he wiped it with thinner most likely lol. he probably wouldnt tell u what it was b/c most people freak out if u put thinner on their car. im the manager at a body shop. $200 sounds cheap. i would be concerned with the quality of the paint product he's planning to put on it.

Haha. Ok so it seems Im not the only one who has had these problems. I mean I come out of work sometimes and there are shopping carts pushed up againts my doors and its like wtf? are people that inconsiderate? So I park my car in the back parking lot of my job and have to walk like a mile across the lot to get to the building. But I figure the extra walk is well worth my car not getting trashed. Sometimes I feel like having a nice car is an immediate magnet to attract a-holes and idiots.

So does anyone have any experience with good polishing compounds or anything like that? I already have Maguires" scratchX and Nufinish scratch technology and Maguires PaintX. Ive used em all on other cars but never had to on my Mustang. Just wondering if there are any better ones out there.

Yeah I figured it was thinner and I would have done it with some that I have but I was afraid lol. Im not really concerned with the quality because they are a local shop that has been around since before I was born and I have some friends that had work done by them over the years real cheap and it is always phenomenal of how good a job they do. My cousin had her car bordeline totaled on three separate occasions in less than a year and they made it look better each time they worked on it. hahaha.

man labor rates must be cheap where u guys live. at our shop its $43/hr. pays around 2.5hrs ($107.50) to remove and reinstall the bumper, and usually about 4 hr's ($172) to refinish a bumper, and $30/paint hr for materials ($120) adds up to around $400 and u havent even been charged for the actual repair. either these guys have REALLY low labor rates, REALLY cheap materials, or they are not doing everything they say they are doing. or they are seriously hooking u up lol.

My dad rubbed the front end of his big fawkin Ram against my mirror.

It pushed his fender in just a tad, and left plastic on his paint... im actually glad for him it didnt take his paint off, the truck is new.

Now theres just a little flat spot on my drivers side mirror, hahaha.

Once I ran into the stupid garage and took my side scoop right off. Then I was parked at my friend’s house and his aunt backed right into my car and caused $1,500 worth of damage. A few weeks ago I was parking at work and thought I could fit into a space but ended up hitting the car next to me. I was able to buff that one out.

I backed into the front of my wife's '03 Hyunday Accent a couple of months ago.... It totally jacked up her car, too. Her bumper hangs like 2-3 inches lower and the paint chipped off of it in several places. My car only has like two small scratches from the license plate bolts... with a little touch up paint it will look as good as new... Built Ford Tough FTW!!!

Why would you let your wife drive something that seems so flimsy and unsafe? Get her in a 'stang
