Okay so my lights on my dash lights went out and I took the guagues out to see if I could change the light bulb, but its inside the guage cluster. So I'm guessing i need to change a fuse. If so. Where is the fuses? Whaich one? What type of fuse should i need to replace it?
What year/model? On mine the gauge lights plug into the back of the cluster panel. They just twist out and the bulb is removed from the socket for changing, I believe. Once you have the gauge cluster screws out, remove the two wiring harnesses so you can put the cluster on a bench upside down (use a towel of something to protect the face). You will have to remove 6 torc screws from the back of the cluster panel to access the bulbs. An easy way to tell if the bulbs are good is to ck continuity across the bulb leads. This can be done with the bulb still in the cluster panel. I just set the ohms to the setting that beeps if there is continuity and put a lead on each side of the bulb (there is a bit of silver where the bulb twists in, the lead can be touching this). If it beeps, the bulb is good and the problem is elsewhere.
that sounds more like a fuse/wiring problem. check your owners manual...it will have the fuse size and locations in the fuse box for the instrument cluster. On mine there are three fuses that are marked insturment cluster...a 5a, 15a & 20a. I would start by locating these and checking to see which, if any are bad as to eliminate that probability. I am referring to the fuse box located on the inside of the car, front drivers side.
I have not had to go futher than this to get a lighting problem solved so I can't say for sure what your next step would be. If it was me I think I would try to check for voltage at the lights themselves. But I'm not sure what to do to access the lights in the controls. But if it has a bulb it's probably meant to be changed which means there is always a way to get to it. Once you get to the bulb test to see if the socket is getting voltage. If not, start backtracking (maybe it's a connection before the socket). Sorry I can't be of more help...hopefully someone who has dealt with this issue before will be following this thread. did you get this fixed yet? if not, when you pull the light switch on, if you pull it slowly, is there a point in between where the dash lights will come on? also, when the dash lights are out, are the tail lights out also?
