**couple things first**
I have an aftermarket Eclipse deck in my 93 and I am very comfortable with car audio wiring.

when I adjust balance left to right, the door speakers adjust but the dash speakers do not. is this common? does anyone know how the dash speakers are wired in?

this really doesn't make any sense and the imbalance is quite frustrating.

Thanks!

The dash speakers may not be operational. I haven't seen a kit yet that explains how to wire them in without the stock external amplifier.

Think about this: two 4 ohm speakers wired in parallel result in a 2 ohm impedance for the two speakers. The 2 ohm impedance may be too low to properly match the amplifer output. This may distort the sound quality or damage the output of the radio or amplifier.

Wire the same two 4 ohm speakers in series and you have 8 ohms impedance. That may be too much impedance to get the maximum output from the amplifer to that channel. As a result, you get less volume from the speakers.

What the stock amp did with the extra speakers was to provide an extra channel for each of the door speakers. The balance was linked to the dash speakers so that the door speaker adjusted to the same balance as the dash speaker on that side.

the dash speakers are definitely working, that is the wierd thing here.

if there is a crossover for the front speakers, there would be no impedance issues, but I doubt that one is in place considering that I am having these wierd balance issues

I may just need to pull out the deck and pop the speakers to get an idea of how it is hooked up. now that I think of it, I can use my tone generator to figure out if there is a crossover.

does your eclipse deck have RCA cables dangling off the back?

I would not be able to do my job without a toner.

Personally I'd trace the wires and see what you come across.

1991vert - yes, the eclipse has rca preouts. why do you ask?

gt drifter - I agree, tone generators are fantastic.
I'll take a look through it. all of the wiring is stock, so I'm not sure what is up here. if it comes down to it, it may just be time to rewire the front stage and install a component set.

the way mine was setup was with all new wiring and new amps. mine always worked fine, but i just took out the amps and wired all the stock, except for the fronts; i kept a small amp and ran the seperate wires. im curious to know if mine would have acted the same way
