Well I have asked alot of questions about engines and upgrades lately and I keep on realizing that old cars are not for kids sometimes. I love my car, no doubt about it, and i know that if I sell it I may someday regret it. But Now that I live in Pomona, Ca (moved from Fresno to attend college) I see gas prices are alot higher, and may continue to get higher (as if gas in california was not expensive enough).
Basically my car is never going to get better gas millage, or be able to truly compete with newer cars, unless i had big bucks to spend. If i do anything to my 289 gas millage is going to go down (and EFI conversion will probably not make that big of a difference), so I am pretty much forced to rebuild it back to stock to get the best possible millage. If i want to upgrade suspension to newer parts such as coil overs i am paying out of my ass. You never win. Old cars are an ongoing project and I like that, and maybe I need to put my Mustang on hold till I am done with college, and work to get a Beater car.
But at the same time I could sell my Mustang, and get something with a 4-cyl turbo (yes I know its rice). It still has HP, and would get better millage.
Just curious, how much could a 1964 1/2 Mustang pull in with a 289? good exterior repainted last year, decent interior, and no rust on the body (to my knowledge atleast)
