Deer vs Mustang,, The way forward from here

Back from Iraq less then an hour,, and I smacked a deer on the way home from the Parade field… Arrrrrrrrrrg. This is the second time a deer has hit my right front.
I refuse to let this ruin my return, my wife and youngest son took extraordinary care of my Mustang… only to have me squish a deer in the first hour I’m home, Other than the hassle of insurance, rental cars, ect,, I’m just looking at this as a way forward…
First time it was just the fender and headlight.
This time, it’s the whole front right corner, to include the rad support, window bumper, and a small dent to the leading edge of the door. Plus whatever is in hidden damage behind scenes. My wife works in the auto service biz, so has a line on a great body man at a competing dealer badge.. (yes I’m going to let a Dodge badge’d dealer work on my Mustang,, he is the only Body guy we know to trust)

So now it’s decision time… assuming the insurance company does not try and total the car (appointment in the next 3 days to find out)
Do I replace with all OEM parts for the GT, mix and match of OEM and aftermarket, all OEM, but non GT (ie GT500 front end)????
If my research here is complete,, the only non factory install worked needed on the GT500 swap is the modification needed to the fog lights?? Yes?
If so, I might be able to get the body shop to order the GT500 parts and install them, in place of the OEM GT parts needed. Just paying the difference in cost if any.
I do like the idea of some aftermarket parts.. But not sure how all that would work when the Body shop will be getting the check in there name,,,and I do not think they will order aftermarket parts (say a Saleen hood I like)
Also Looking for a company that does tire and wheel packages…Was sure I had seen one though a link here, but my search turns up nothing that works while I wait on the insurance company.. I want to order my new tires and wheels.
Bullets, black 18x9’s in front, 18x10’s and deep dish in the rear. Want the wider lip of the aftermarket wheel, vs the thin satin rim strip of the OEM. Wrapped in Nitto 555’s thinking 245 / 45 front and 275 / 40 rear.
As far as I can tell this combo will work, Yes?
Minimal speedo error based on overall diameter change from the stock shinnies that come on the GT.
Breen speed gets the nod for a CAI and tune,,, will order that in the morning.
Lastly,, I have to do something about dropping the chassis a bit. It’s a daily driver, so I’ll not be slamming it. All the MODs that were still new when I left for Iraq,, should have been proven out my now.. Reality is I do not need a canyon carver or track car here.. But at the same time do not want to lower it and kill the handling and ride. Can I get away with just a set of springs and shocks/struts? Thinking the FR springs and their shock / struts for the same…. Is there a better way to get where I’m trying to go?
Pics to follow as soon as it gets light

first off, welcome home! :flag: thank you!

you will have to check with the bodyshop to see their policy on the aftermarket parts. some will use the money for whatever, and some will not. i have worked at both types of shops. some are more worried than others about the insurance company complaining about the repair.

for the wheels, try www.tirerack.com or www.americanmuscle.com.
but i am not sure if they both offer the wheel/tire combo you are looking for.

tire size specs:
stock: 235/55/17 = 27.18" tall
new: 275/40/18 = 26.66" tall
new: 245/45/18 = 26.68: tall

i would go with a taller tire. those sizes are common for the older stangs, not S197s.
try this if you can find tires you want in the proper size. 255/45/18 and 285/40/18. both are close to the stock height.

my buddy used the FRPP springs, and did not need an adjustable panhard bar. you will need a way to adjust the front camber. thre are a few ways to do it. the cheapest is to slot the mounting hole on the strut. i dont like that method. the next cheapest is camber bolts. they can be had for about $10 each. another way is to get camber plates from J&M. they replace the upper mount on your strut and allow for adjustment.

Thanks....for the assist.:nice:

Late Model Restoration is going to be the supplier of 18 x 9 and 18 x 10 deep dish black bullet’s Wrapped in Nitto 555 255x45x18 and 285x40x18’s.
The wheels are in stock but the tires have to be ordered.. Won’t do that till I hear from the insurance adjuster….. no show today,, hopefully tomorrow.
Spoke to body man today… can have OEM parts here in a few days, and thanks to my wife’s connections,, he will slide me in first part of next week. BUT,, he cannot order parts from third party suppliers…. And my insurance company insists on making the check out to the body shop.. So, if I do anything other then GT OEM it will be the GT500 front end,,, and I’ll wire the lights myself after I get it back
I need a wired tight parts list for the GT swap in order to make this work,,,, OEM part numbers and such.. I’ve found a few posts with partial lists,, but nothing that states it is a complete list. Anyone have a good link?

i dont remember where i got this list, or if it is 100% complete or not. here you go anyway. hope it helps.

List in post above about covers it. Just need to cut connectors off 7R3Z14290EA WIRING HARNESS, for fog lights and replace on existing fog lamps wires (might need to extend existing wires or have long leads on the GT500 connectors). Rest pretty straight forward.
