I own a 96 Cobra. I recently purchased a Demolet CAI (system #4). I thought the down-pipe (with filter) were to be installed inside the fenderwell, but it will not fit due to an obstructing smog-pump (I think that's what it is). I've read that I can delete the down-pipe altogether, and attach the filter horizontally, but that would reduce hp. No doubt some of you have encountered the same problem, and I'd like to know what solutions you've discovered. Should I (can I) relocate the pump, or remove it altogether (keeping it for smog tests), and if yes, how would I do this? Thank you.

I ran a DC on my '03 Cobra for a while before switching to a K&N FIPK. Why do you think that attaching the filter horizontally would reduce HP? It would still be in the fender, no?

I contacted John Demolet regarding the situation and he replied that installing the downpipe would net me an extra 4/5 hp compared to a horizontal install.

4 to 5 on a 96 Cobra? Personally I think that's number is a little inflated myself.

I guess the decision you need to make then is how important is that extra 4-5 HP compared to the time & effort required to relocate of remove the smog pump.

My thoughts lean your direction. It would be an un-worthwhile pain to start tinkering with the pump. I appreciate your feedback re: my questions. Thank you.
