Derale Dual Radiator Fans

Exploring the cooling options of my engine rebuild, i see that Derale has a dual 13" inch radiator fan that pulls a whopping 4000cfm and has a thickness of only 3.190 inches!

This would solve the cooling issues i had before the rebuild...

BUT

Each motor is 245 watts and draws total 50 amps..

Would this be too much of a drain? (I am no electronics wizard)

I am running a Powermaster 3g alternator and my battery, which will be new when the rebuild is finished, has been relocated to the back.

What amperage rating is your alternator? 130 amps, 160 amps, etc.

Some larger OEM fans pull 30-40 amps once up to speed [by comparison].

I'm not familiar with Derale products. Have you thought about the Contour dual fan setup? Those things pull up to 3400 CFM and only draw about 36 Amps. 3400 CFM is more than enough to cool a stock motor, even a mildly modified one. I got one from the junkyard for a decent price. Tested that thing out... damn, that thing will cool your garage on a hot ass day. And the best part is, a 3G alt is perfect for this fan. Not sure about the 50 amp draw on that Derale. That's a seriously heavy duty fan with a heavy duty load.

I believe i have the 130 or 140 amp alternator from Powermaster. The black unit...

Since i'm getting the engine rebuilt, i'd like to stay with new parts, if at all possible.

Plus, the spacing is VERY small so the fan will need to be slim- no more than 3.75" inches in width.

The fan will be mounted on a Fluidyne radiator.

Would a 200 amp alternator do the trick? Note: I don't have a megawatt stereo system.

If this will be too much of a hassle then i'll stick with what i already got- a Summit dual fan (2600cfm) and good fan controller.

If you have alternator output issues at idle (when you need your E-fan), you could overdrive the alternator (doing this can void the alternator warranty however).

Spal also makes some thin profile fans.
