Diablo Predator or SCT?

I have been trying to refrain from telling people to use the search and closing threads, but I suspect the lack of replies to your inquiry is because this exact question has been answered numerous times. A simple search will provide you with all the info you desire

Which one of these programmers gives you more hp, ease of programming, allows for more options, better support etc.? Which one do you guys own? Thanks.

Dear Joes Snake,

HANDS DOWN WINNER!!!

Diablo has the best user friendly tuning ability...

You can do it yourself and make any and all changes in a few minutes...

The SCT-2 must be programmed by a tuner expert and you cannot change anything unless you tap into your computer and then you have to run outside back into your car to load it...

If you want to change the final drive gearing with the Diablo, it takes about 3 minutes tops...

I've used both, and I'll take the SCT tuner any day. The live logging is an excellent feature.

The custom tune thing isn't really that big of a deal. I went through Brenspeed and I'm using his 89 tune and I couldn't be happier.

To each his own.

I ordered a kit from John DeMolet and it comes with the SCT. He told me that tunes are free with the SCT. So from what you guys are saying, you have to load the SCT on your laptop and then xfer it to the car. You can't make minor adjustments with the SCT? For instance, you put an off-road pipe on and want to turn of the rear O2's. I hope I did not make a mistake getting this tuner.

Can't say as I'm familiar with John DeMolet, but I can tell you that I've had good luck with my SCT Xcalibrator2. I bought it from Paul's High Performance in Michigan. I talked with them and let them know what my setup was, my choice to run on regular gas, and that I had an auto. They set it up really well. Significantly more power, no more throttle response lag, good positive shifts on WOT. No decrease in gas mileage except for the first two weeks when I was heavy on the gas testing it.

If you can work with DeMolet, or one of the other tuners (some folks like Bamachips but PHP did a good job for me) and tell them what you have and what you want, they can set your tune up very well. You can ship the SCT back to them to set up. Then all you have to do is plug the thing in, save the factory tune, and install the new one. It will be like night and day. The car will really come alive.

I have the SCT X-Cal II Strategy Flash tuner, which is just as good as the Predator, if not better..The only advantage the Predator has over the SF is the Predator has the ability to be used as both a preloaded and custom tuner.. Where on the other hand, the SF only has the ability to be used as either a preloaded tuner, or has to be formatted into a custom tuner..However, the SF does have this advantage over the Predator, the SF has the ability to select preloaded SCT airbox tuning files, such as JLT, C&L, PHP, JMS, WMS, DEMOLET, STEEDA and of course there's also a tune for the stock airbox, as well..So the need for a custom tuner, isn't really necessary with the SF anyhow..Guess it all depends on your preference but IMHO the X-cal II SF, is far more a dependable and reliable tuner than the Predator..

Dave,

Everything I quoted from your post is complete BS.

The real facts are, you can use the X-Cal 2 hand-held to do more than a Predator can and on top of that the tune is closer to being perfect because a dealer had to do make it. Now there is also a different version of the X-Cal 2 out there that come preloaded with a tune similar to the predator, this is called the X-Cal 2 SF.

Personally, I would buy the X-Cal 2, then the X-Cal 2 SF, then leave the car stock, I wouldn't consider the Predator if it was given to me for free.

I have used both SCT products and the Diablo Predator and I like the SCT product better.

That is not true at all..The SCT X-Cal II can be connected to any PC with any standard USB cable and you can also plug the X-cal directly into your car's computer port, located under the dash on the driver's side and download your tunes..I don't know who told you this, but their dead wrong..The X-cal II is also completely user adjustable and also has the ability to read error codes and perform data logging via SCT's live link software..:nice:

Thanks for the replies. I looked on John Demolets' site and the SCT X-Cal2 comes with the cable for computer hook-up as well as the user features enabled so I guess I'll be able to mess with it. The Tunable Induction kit looks killer and I have read alot of good things about it. I'm having the intake painted screaming yellow to match my car.

The only time you need to hook an X-Cal 2 to your PC/Laptop is if you get a new tune emailed to you, you want to Datalog with the X-Cal 2 or there may be a software upgrade. The Datalogging capability of the X-Cal 2 is far superior to that of the Predator, far far superior.

You need to hook a predator up to your computer as well. Every time Diablo does a software upgrade, you need to hook your predator to the PC to get it. Unless things have changed quite a bit, Diablo puts out updates far more frequently than SCT does. IMO, that is not a good thing, especially when the upgrade is directly tune related.
