Diablo V. SCT xc 2

Im trying to decide between the diablo and SCTs latest programmer

i have a 2002 mustang gt, thats auto, and would like to do more boltons and gears in the near future.

The diablo sounds real nice right now because of the stangnet coupon.
But ive heard the SCT has features that the diablo does not have.

Does anyone have the SCT that has an 99-04 mustang Auto, does it have the feature that changes trans pressure.

So far the diablo sounds better, but im not sure yet......

i have an 04 and i love it.

havent really got into it due to the track not being open and lack of training with it.

the dealer asked me my mods and did a quick tune while i was there. with the 4.10s its a beast. my car loses traction and gets sideways in the 1-2 shift. get the xcal 2

i've got a predator and it works well. from what i've read it seems the xcal 2 has one or two additional auto tranny functions. you can definately change pressure with a predator though, just make sure you put in a tranny cooler first.

the one thing diablosport sucks with is updates. i can't remember the last time there was a flash revision.

I agree. I've been very happy with the results of my Diablo but MAN are they slow on updates .

I know the professional human tuners prefer the XCal2 over the Predator simply because it has a better software package.

If the sct2 was out with all of its options when i bought the predator that is what i would have bought. That being said the predator works fine also. I would check to see which one tuners in your area are using and base my decision off of that.

Question on the above quote. I realize a tranny cooler is always a good idea with an automatic but why would it be needed more with firmer shifts? My understanding was that firmer shifts = less friction = less heat. Maybe i'm off in my logic.

I say get whichever a tuning shop close to you likes to use. I know someone with a predator she loves it. I love my Xcal2.
I would suggest a dyno tune though.

I had a Predator and didn't think much of it.
NOW, I have a SCT Xcal2 custom tuned by Modular Powerhouse!
Tim @ MPH sent the tuner to me with 2 of his custom tunes.
One tune for 91 octane, and another tune for 93 octane.
I love it!
It cost $399 for the Xcal-2 and the tunes!

find the most reputable tuner for MUSTANGS (not just cars in general) in your area or as close as you are willing to travel, get what ever tuner that uses the software they use. Then one day when you want a custom dyno tune, you only have to pay for their time and the dyno, and not a software swap.

I am also in the market for a tuner....do either of these tuners read and or clear codes on the computer? Also, I know they will correct the speedometer for a gear swap, but will they correct for larger wheels? I am going for a set of 18x9.5's and 4:10's, and I need to know if these tuners will correct for both. Also.............(sorry for all the questions) is getting a dyno really that important when it comes to the tuner. I don't know of a dyno in this area, and I have never had my car on a track. I thought the tuners came with pre-programmed setting for vehicles with certain set ups. If I get this tuner, am I going to have to get the car dyno'd? Anybody know how much that cost?? Alright, I'm done.......Thanks!!!!

Yeah thats true. I was dealing with RWTD and they switched to doing the 05 mustangs. So I got my excal 2 now. Haven't installed it yet but it used around here and a licence tuner is willing to help the guys that have it out here.

But find what they use around your area and try it out.

I have researched these two to death. owners will bash them each way but they both have decent features.

basically if you are a bolt on only guy I think the diablo has its benifits. mainly price. you can pick them up used cheap of eay. It has a ton of features etc. you can turn off egr, traction control, rear o2's, change gears, tire size, limiters, datalog, etc.

Now if you ever what to do heads, cams, tune your own car, etc I think the xcal 2 is the way to go hands down manily because you can unlock it to do you own tunes if you like to keep modding.

I was doing a rear end build up and it was getting sepndy. I also am buying a kenne bell in april so I wanted something in between that time so I got a used predator so I would not lose any money. I will just sell it when I order the KB. it has nice features but it is just not as expandable as the xcal 2. It did eveything I need to do to my car as it sits now.

so IMO there is not really one right tuner it kind of depends where you are going with the car. If you have a GT with a catback and want to do gears I am not sure the extra money it would cost for a xcal 2 is worth it even though it is proalby a overall better product.

Part throttle shift schedule
Stall converter lock/unlock schedule
Capability to edit you tune on your PC
Upgrade path to the PRP for full-blown tuning
Datalogging on-device or to a PC

Big things the Predator has over the Xcal2:

Better on-device user interface
More stable, more mature package overall
Less restrictions/conditions when selling it to someone else

The two items in bold are what got me to switch to an Xcal2.

I'm pretty sure that if I owned an auto I would have sold my predator for a SCT.

Seeing as your one of the few that has owned both, let me ask you, is there a SOTP diffrence between the two performance tunes that come with the programmers.

Nope. I didn't expect any either. There's only so much Diablosport or SCT can do to a canned tune to make it gain horsepower, and still be applicable to 99% of the cars out there. I switched to the Xcalibrator2 for the features.
