my steering wheel has a least an 1\8th of a turn before it engages and moves the wheels. i have power steering on a 1966 mustang, 289.

i know this is a fairly common problem for these older cars, but can someone point me in the right direction to go about fixing this?

is it the adjusting nut on the power steering cylinder? or an issue in the steering box?

thanks!

It could be the steering box, tie rods or the power steering link. It may be all of the combined. You'll just have to check it out and see what is loose. One good way to tell if it is your steering box is to turn the steering wheel back and forth through the loose travel and get someone to look at the arm that comes out of the steering box and see if it is moving.
