Does anybody know what the cheapest brand of Diagnostic Tools are for the FOX BODY mustangs? I need one that can do general codes and such, since I have a check engine light on that I have to get decoded but autozone and oreillys doesnt carry the equip to for a car that old.

With pre OBDII cars a multi-meter, test-light, jumper wire or all 3 depending on the make and model of ther car is all you need.

The EEC4 Foxbody Mustangs can have the codes read by flashing the cel, after jumping across the diagnostic connector terminals. Search around here for details.

I have an Actron CP9145 Super Scanner, that does both earlier cars and current obd2 stuff. The obd2 stuff is easy, because a $39 Harbor Freight Creader will pull any of those codes.

The Actron stuff seems to work great, and they have good phone support, etc.

Check out this recent thread for some scanners/readers

http://forums.stangnet.com/showthread.php?t=648102

The post by jrichker highlights the most basic reader.

The ones I referenced are most likely overkill
