Difference between GT40, Cobra, and tubular GT40?

For performance, which is better of the 3? Thanks

intakes

the easy answer to your question is they are all the same. look up some threads there was one exactly on this topic that showed a test of all three intakes on the same motor making within 1-2hp of each other all the way throught the rpm range. anderson ford did this test i believe. i have the gt-40 tubular one, it is a great overall intake, but from what i've found out, it isn't really better than any of the other intakes you have there, it just looks cooler. the cobra and gt-40 truck style upper intakes are cast and should be able to be ported, don't quote me on this though. the tubular gt-40 upper can't be ported, but the lower intakes for all three are pretty much the same. don't spend $600 like i did and get the gt-40 tubular because you think it has some magical powers over the other ones. get the cobra, it looks cool, you can get it in a polished format if you want and with a ported lower should work really well. and the biggest bonus is it's about $200-300 cheaper than the tubular one depending on where you get it.

I did a search but didnt get a response like that. I appreciate it! Thats exactly what I wanted to hear. :nice:

I agree that they are all similar in performance, the GT40 is bar far the best looking! Also my personal belief is when the Intakes are Hot the GT40 would do best because the Tubular design would not hold onto as much heat.

I just installed a gt40 tubular with a 1" phenolic spacer, it barely clears the hood. The casting models maybe a bit taller so I am not sure if you can run the 1" spacer with them?
I bought the tubular upper off craig's list for 300.00 and purchased a gt40 explorer lower off ebay. I have access to a machine shop so drilling& tapping the IAT and putting the TB coolant holes was easy for me, I would guess it could be a bit harder with a hand drill.

intake

i bought one of the last ones from ford about 5 years ago. my local machine shop/tuner is a ford dealer and had one on the shelf. it cost me a lot at $600 but that was five years ago, and believe it or not they still go for close to that now. i at the time had the edelbrock performer which worked good but i had heard a lot about the gt-40. with my set up the torque comes in really quick which is ideal for street driving. i have 317 ft tq at 2750rpm. if you want torque, good torque, especially at lower rpms the gt-40 will do the job, great street intake.
