What does everyone recommend for a differential and axles. I plan on going with 31 spline. I use the car primarly for street driving and hit the 1/4 mile almost every weekend.

I've seen Eaton posi, auburn, etc. What does everyone recommend. Also, when everyone upgraded their axles, did you do the c-clip eliminators or remove the traction control??

Thanks;
Mike

I posted a thread a couple days ago asking what was required to the the rear end upgrade. If you chech the last couple pages of this forum, you might find it under "rear end questions". Some replied with their suggestions...It's always good to hear other opinions, though!

the Auburn is garbage, you'd grenade it on DRs before you know what happened.

the Eaton/Superior package from DTD is a good deal. its like $559 for the diff, axles, axle bearings, axle seals, and (useless with Welds) stock length wheelstuds.

a spool is over kill unless you launch at 6k+ and your willing to lose the ABS. if you launch at 6k+ and you want to keep the ABS get a Detroit 'C' Locker.

Thats the deal i got.....only I use long lug nuts with the standard lenght studs with the welds...I'm not sure I'm legal on that yet....although they are hardened

I asked them about this a month or so ago, and they said they do not offer any such package deal. Here are the prices that I got from them over the phone(http://www.drivetraindirect.com/)
Eaton $389
Superior Axles $279
Superior Install Kit $80
==>Total $748

I found a price of $360 on National Drivetrain's website(http://www.nationaldrivetrain.com/) for the Eaton.

Summit Racing seems to have the best price on the Superior Axles and Install kit, $250 and $70 respectively.

Gene Evans Ford (http://www.gefracing.com) has the best price on FMS gears at $140 and the FMS aluminum driveshaft $148.

Here are the manufacture product numbers in cases you guys want to cross reference them.

Superior Axle Kit (31spline): EV84
Superior Master Overhaul Kit: 35-2013
Eaton Differential (31 spline): 19588-010

They may /must not offer it any more. At the time they said you could have Eaton or that other hunk of junk with you package...
agree with GEF...
also another source for eaton at $360 is

Mustang 35...you can rrebuild the Eaton...making it popular...its strong too.
the auburn breaks and goes in the trash can. I'd run a FMS 31 spline truck diff before the Auburn. They are much stronger than stock, are rebuildable, and are cheap...at GEF too. I know several cars running 9's on that FMS piece with double clutch packs..

Dave, at the ETs and Speeds you car is capable of you need the long studs and open lugs to be legal (front and rear). if you track is lax in tech then you may get through... if you want to run FFW or NMRA, you'll flunk and go back on the trailer until you fix it.

Slider, tell them you saw the ad in Fastest Street Car magazine.

hehehe I guess I better get it fixed then...going to Atlanta in Mar and I dont want that.:-) I knew about the rear but I thought the front they just wanted to see the stud so I could knock the cap off. I guess I need to go to school on this ASAP.
I'm trying to find a way to be able to still run my stock wheels but that would take deep stock lug nuts???
Thanks Mike

I just checked with drivetrain direct again, and they qouted me $738 this time.

Eaton $342
Axle $308
Inst Kit $88

Well, that means they have the best price on the Eaton by far, but Summit Racing still has the best price on axles.
