Difficulty installing seat upholstery on high back Fox seats

I am in the process of recovering a set of hi- back sport seats. All went well until I did the back of the front seats. My question is -- what holds the top of the large rods that are inserted from the bottom up through the foam and across the horozontal rods? The LMR article says"
Once you have the horizontal rod pointing in the right direction, start re-inserting the large rods. This is sort of tricky. You have to make sure the horizontal rod cradles it correctly and also make sure you get it under the "HOOK" that is way up in there by where the headrest is.

I dont have any piece that looks like a hook??

Without that rod being held toward the back of the seat, the seat material seems to push out rather than be recessed as it should be.
Any ideas about what I don't understand or where I am going wrong on this procedure?

The front seat backs are toughest part of the seat cover install. LOL Pull your cover back off and locate the metal rod that is made deep into the foam near the top. Slide your smaller horizontal "cross rod" into the fabric sleeve on the inside of your seat cover. If memory serves now you have to attach that rod with "hog rings" to the metal rod in the foam that you just located.

The easiest way to install that front seat back cover is to roll it up "inside out" like a sock ,(or condom)LOL . Start unrolling it downward over the foam seat back slowly. This way you can work as you go securing the rods and hog rings as you go down. Once get all that secured, finish unrolling the seat cover. You can then slide your 2 longer vertical rods into the vertical fabric sleeves and shove them under the hooked ends of that horizontal upper rod.

Its been a couple yrs since I did a set of these. If I was there with you it would be easier. LOL

Just remember be patient.
Good Luck

First and foremost, thank you for your purchase, as the seat upholstery on LRS site is manufactured here by TMI for the Foxes! I hope the fit/quality/look/feel exceed your expectations!

89SSC covered it pretty well. It is very hard to explain in text - we here at TMI hope to release an install video soon that shows how to do an install from start to finish.

Basically, there on the sides of the center insert you have two 'listing channels' sewn into the back of the seat. When you took off your original seat upholstery you would have had to remove two metal rods from these same channels (they are roughly 20inches or so). Transfer over those same rods to the new listing channel on the new upholstery. The 'hook' LRS is referring to is located in the top corners of the insert section. (where those metal rods come out at the top of the seat), from there you almost blindly have to locate a metal 'hook' that is located IN the stock foam (also located in our replacement foam - also sold by LRS) you have to fit the tip of the metal rod into that hook, once that is done you simply lay the rod flat in against the seat and hog ring it into place at the bottom. It is tricky, and definitely the hardest part of the Fox Upholstery install since you basically have to find the hook blindly!!

Another quick tip - in order to get your upholstery to slide on smoothly - place a thin cheap trash bag over the foam, then slide the upholstery over it - no friction makes for an easier slide - then, once the seat upholstery is on, simply tear out the trash bag from the bottom. Good luck w/ the install and feel free to email me personally if you have any questions! (pictures always help if you have them)

Thanks so much for the help guys! I did not realize the HOOK was built into the new TMI foam I purchased... I will try the "Long Rod" operation again tomorrow.:)
I have all of the parts, just need to struggle a bit with that operation!
I am sure the seats will be perfect if I install them correctly!!!;)

That 'hook' issue is the hardest part of doing a Fox Body Upholstery install, but once you do it one time you'll be an expert at giving advice to anyone who attempts it next. G'luck and again feel free to contact me if you have any questions along the way!
