Since all new drums would be the same price im thinking about front disc conversion. I found a kit including everything, even the spindles, for $999.99. Does this sound good? I have 5 lugs now so the company said it is just a bolt on and all the parts are new. Eventually can I change to a larger rim?

i think my SSBC kit was that price, and imho it was totally worth it, the brakes are awesome, and aside from having to fabricate a few brake lines ( because my old ones were shot ) did the entire install in a day with my dad, it was easy and fun!.

hey, i have Wilwood front brakes which can be had (without slotted or cross drilled rotors as they are extra) for $651.99. They look very nice and the stopping power on them is great. Plus the calipers are all interchangable. IOW, you can get their rear brake kit later on, and if a caliper ever goes out, you just say you want X type and you don't have to say for what car or right or left. Very nice. They also have 4 piston calipers and cross drilled or slotted (or both) rotors are a fairly easy add-on. I'd recommend them if you're on a budget (or even if you are not.)

Jegs, Summit Racing and Barnett performance all carry them.

wilwood interfiers with wheels sometimes..
the SSBC kit is 100% complete and a stock bolt on, will fit behind 14" ( stock 65 wheels ) and are 4 piston calipers. i got the Aluminum Caliper set because that was what the store ( Mustang City in Belmont shout out! ) had at the moment, and hey..it's always nice to say 'i have 4 piston aluminum calipers' haha. and it was about $999. the stopping power vs my father's Porsche is..very compairable. ( i'm not just bsing, i've raced his porsche and done stopping tests back to back with my car )

So can you really call them 'budget' upgrade if you spend $700 on the brakes and then $400 on new rims since the old ones don't fit anymore

Enhancement maybe?

Hmmm...

Maybe this was by design as mine is...

get discs for safety WAF goes up...
but...
to get discs you have to get new wheels...
easier to get the WAF for the purchase!

That is my plan at least

actually if you read what i wrote, you do not need to get new wheels if you get disc brakes. the SSBC disc brake kit requires no wheels change.

For the wildwood kit all you need is a minimum of 15" wheels correct?

The biggest problem with the Wilwoods isn't nessecarily needing 15 inch rims, it is the track change they introduce. If you get into a posistion where you are looking to MAXIMIZE the amount of rubber on the road (like me with 235 45 17 on the front) you will run into yet another added expense of needed custom backspacing on the wheels. If you are content running 205-215 tires then the track change is not that big of a deal if you can easily stomach a simple wheel diameter upgrade.

what size wheels do you have? are they 14" or are they 15? with a 17" wheel you can get 13" rotors, with 15" wheel 11" rotor, with 14" wheel i think the usual size is like 10.25" rotor or something. unless you are going to get the 17" wheels NOW you are sort of stuck with what you are going to get.

Personally I would go with the SSBC setup.
I put that on mine and worked great with my 15s and now with my 17s both using off the shelf sizing with no special orders needed.

How far out do the Wilwood kits push the rotors? I want to run 18x7" wheels up front with 225/40/18's. I'm curious how the wilwood kit will affect the acceptable stock backspacing of 4.25". I run Wilwoods on my hardtail harley, I like them.
