I spent about $350 for a Granada set up.

Edit: why can't I keep my big mouth shut? Sorry, this isn't a kit. I spent more time than I would have buying a kit.

Kit: $650 and I didn't have to hunt anything down.

That's why I said, not that much more. If you add your time into the equation it can in fact even out.

Edit: And once you find your cores and spindles in a junkyard, that price is variable. That junkyard owner may very well know why he has and charge your $300 instead of $115. When I had my 1st gen crx, I found a junkyard with a recently wrecked 1st gen that had an aftermarket metal version of this little plastic piece that goes in front of the hood and breaks frequently. He knew what he had and tried to charge me as much as a new one costs for it! I of course told him to get bent.

Yeah, it's about half price, seems significant to me. I see a lot of front disc kits out there that don't even include new spindles that are upwards of $1,000. My next upgrade will be to the '99-04 pbr calipers. Once I've completed that my costs may be over $650.

I actually enjoy going to the junkyard, learning about my car and parts interchangeability, and piecing the stuff together. I would never think I should be paid for it. It's much more fun to me than most other ways of spending time. A couple weekends ago I got complete rear discs off a '90 Towncar with the parking brake cables, plus some other misc. stuff for other cars - total cost $35. I haven't seen anyone saying this will bolt up, but I'm going to try it. I'll make changes if need be.

You're right about junkyard prices. Over time I've learned which junkyards I'll go to and some that I won't even call (except maybe for a chuckle). Now I know better than to go back to that junkyard that charged me $115 for the parts. IMO I overpaid.

(end offtopic cheapness rant) - my apologies, there's nothing wrong with purchasing a kit. Please don't read that into my post. I just enjoy doing it a different way.

Sheesh, I start a thread specifically stating that I am not interested in using Granda brakes and that's all anybody will talk about.

I have the brackets, bearings, hub, and rotors installed. I also have everything safety wired as it should be. I hope to be installing the calipers this evening. I just wanted to point out that safety wiring sucks, my fingers are still bleeding.
