Disc Brake Swap Question for '66

Hello Guys,

I will soon be bringing home a 1966 Factory 4V/4 Speed with (COLD) AC & Power Brakes. I have a question about doing a brake swap to power discs.

I know that 75-80 Granada/Monarch and 74+ Maverick/Comet front spindles, rotors, calipers, & proportioning valve will be a direct bolt on swap for the '66 Mustang. There are no local used parts from Mavericks or Granadas, however, one yard says that the later LTD II's such as the '84s are all the same as the Granadas, except for the 4 lug bolt pattern.

What I need to know is will the spindles of an LTDII interchange with the Granada, and if that is the case, since the LTD II is a Fox Body, will '89 Mustang spindles, rotors, and calipers interchange with the LTDII & Granada.

Any help you guys can provide will be greatly appreciated. As you know, the aftermarket kit to do this is close to $900. I can buy the LTDII parts for $80.00. Granted, I will probably have to buy new rotors and possibly new calipers, and definitely new bearings and hoses, but I think it would come in MUCH less than $900.

Now, let me add this.... I will soon be swapping out the spindles and brake parts on my '89 for '94-95 parts so I can fit the center pieces on the 17" 1998 Mustang wheels I have on it now. If the '89 Mustang parts are the same as the LTDII parts, and the LTDII is the same as the Granada, it looks like I will have everything I will need for the '66. Keep in mind, the '89 Mustang has already had 5 lug rotors and axles in place of the 4 lug originals.

I hope this isn't too long winded or confusing. It's almost as clear as mud for me.

Thanks,

I have never really heard of anyone using a fox chassis spindle to do a disc swap with, If it would work im not sure how much it would mess up the geometry of the front susp. I have heard that the granada spindle generetes a decent amount of bumpsteer itself. When I swapped to front discs I went through a company called engineered components, I sent them my stock mustang spindles, they took some measurements, and then with the kit I got and new dual m/c, combination valve, mounting brackets, bolts, discs from a granada (I got the drilled rotors 60$ extra), new gm single piston calipers, new soft lines, and bearings, basically a whole front disc kit for about 700$ shipped. This is about the cheapest front disc kit I have come across of, besides the granada swap. Hope this helps.

brake help

Scott,

I too am a new member here...

Let me provide you what I have researched...

1. If you are going to pursue granada get scott pimms e-book...you can find it on ebay sandcpimm I believe is the seller ID

2. If you cannot find a granada set email me as I am 2 hours south of Atlanta, and a local yard here still had a couple of granadas with spindles in tact.

3. The fox platform will not "correctly" work on early mustangs.

4. You best bet from what I have researched is Baer brakes followed by wilwood and SSBC (stainless steel) then Granada.

I plan on using the Granada setup myself, and I am aware of the bumpsteer issue...

The Granada can cause some strange issues when doing shelby control arm drop, or using any of the various aftermarket suspension kits from Global west, Grab-A-trak and others so I have read...if you stick with stock you should have few problems...

If you would like email me or PM me for info.
