Just back from a local J'yard, today. I found several 90's Crown Vics there with disc brake 8.8's. The bolt pattern on the axle tubes for the brake backing plates is the same as the small bearing 8 and 9 inch housings. If any of y'all are contemplating rear discs for your Stangs, these may be worth checking out. They're as common as dirt. Can't tell y'all if they'll work , but they look like they'd be relatively easy to swap.

Hearne, yes and I understand if you can find a "Police" Crown Vic the set up is a little bigger...................going on a rumor, not sure.

Several of the cars at the track have this set up from a Crown Vic and I am thinking in one or two applications you may have to get the grinder out for a small modification.

Good stuff, I like the "junk yard" approach rather than spending big bucks.

Lincolns too

I used the entire disc setup out of a Lincoln Mark 7 if i remember correctly, its been 5 years or so. I had an 8" rear out of a Granada (3" tubes) in my 66 coupe. I mounted the rotors on the axles and used compressed air in the calipers to hold them where I wanted them. I cut the bottom half of the 8.8 mounting bracekt off and aligned everything and welded it to the housing (kinda permanent at this point). I had to so it this way since the 8.8 bracket would set the calipers too far out and the rotors wouldn't fit. The offset for the 8.8 caliper from the axle is greater than an 8". This could probably be done on a standard Mustang 8" but I know the tubes neck down on the earlier models.

The offset on the Crown Vic looks closer than the mark VII, more like the drum brakes. I just bought an 88 Mark VII ( cheap) and I see what you're saying on those, the damn axles stick out, looks like 3-4 inches.

Historic------- I saw some Police Vics too, but these all looked like the same diameter rotors, but I didn't get to measure them to compare sizes. The Two Vics I checked had 11.5 inch rotors ( or close to it)

OK, I am sure you are correct. I was going by "hear say".

Would be kinda cool to tell your buddies that the rear disc's were off a police cruiser. a.k.a. "The Blues Brothers"

What were they driving while Sam and Dave were doing the "Soul Man" tune...........?
