one of my buddies has a 99 dodge dakota rt.and thinks he can beat me by 5-7 cars.his mods are cold air intake, msd ignition and flowmasters.mine are a shift kit,and cut-off converters. his tires are almost bald and mine are like new. i think i can beat him off the line cause at 3000 rpm my car will not spin the tires, and he does good to get 2000 without spinning. oh yeah i almost forgot i'm gonna try to ice down my intake before we race.if it will help any.any advice on how to beat him would be helpful. i know this should be in 5.0 talk. but i needed to know of any tricks to try and use to win, if i can.

He won't smoke you, but don't be surprised if he is at your door. Those trucks run low 15's

I think those are high 14-15 second trucks. You should be able to take him. Now that I think about...I don't think those numbers are right. I ran 15.6 in my 94 Dodge Ram 1500 360, 4x4, regular car, short box, four speed auto.

I was scared to run my car really hard (Still kinda am), but check the oil and such before hand and don't bounce off the rev limiter and everything should be alright.

I may be speaking too soon, but I have my 90 LX 5.0 in sig basically stock and I beat on it just about every time I get in it and have done so since I bought it 20000 miles ago...I checked compression in it a couple months ago and it was good. If you take care of these motors, they're generally pretty tough.

You have nothing to worry about. My engine has 160,000 on it and it was ran HARD. I'm talking runs to 140mph or faster, racing, high RPM, burnouts, everything. It's still got good compression and runs GREAT. Any engine in general will usually take a harder "beating" than most people think they will.

Don't worry too much about breaking the engine- it will make you timid in your run. Just realize you have a faster car and unless you fu*k up, he will not take you

Icing the intake will only get water everywhere and possibly melted plastic, you will not gain any advantage.
