do I have posi or is it just broken?

I have an 88 4cy that has been converted to an 8. I was wondering if the 4cyl came with a posi rearend, because I only have 1 tire spinning right now. I wasnt sure if it had it, or if it was just broken. If the car doesnt have it, what route do you suggest I take. Thanks

i may be wrong but i beleive they all came with the posi.. it might need a rebuild basically they use the same idea as a clutch with discs.... i could be wrong....

My Take: Starting in 1986 all Mustangs were equiped with the 8.8" rear end. Replacing the older 7.5" unit that was found in the "small motor" mustangs previously.

The Traction-Loc was only standard on the cars equiped with the 5.0L motors....

time to fins a 31 spline posi carrier and some good axles and upgrade the rear end. its a good mod to do specially if you want to continue beating on it.

i believe the only 4cly car that had posi was the SVO's

Could be clutch packs. they are relatively cheap.

No, Only V-8's have posi including up to at least 98, possibly all the way to 04. From personal experience with 3 88's, an 89 and a 93 4, cyl they all had 7.5's.

4 Cyl's are all equipped with the 7.5" open diff. Even the 6cyl's all the way up to atleast 04 come with open diff 7.5" rear ends. No traction lock's..

For a posi rear end you are going to have to throw some chevy parts on it... For a Ford rear end, you might want to find some trac-loc parts.

83-06+ V8 Mustangs have posi. 86+ come with an 8.8

All base model V6, I6, 2.3L Mustangs come with a 7.5" open rear end. Only the SVO got a 7.5" Posi.
